Re: Speaker attenuators and dummy loads....for dummies!

So since my last post, I went against the advice and bought the two jack widget... But I did listen... so to alleviate the potential stress in the jack connectors, I loosened the sockets, plugged in the widget and tightened them up again, so that shouldn't be an issue. I haven't really tested it yet...

Re: Pickup replacements- pointless or necessary?

Hi, I can only speak as I found, but I had a cheap strat knock off... one of those ones that comes with a small amp and bits n bobs you might buy a teenager for thier first guitar.... It was my first guitar and I was a teenager then! A few years ago, I changed the pickups from the brandless Ch...

Re: E-mu Proteus 2000 manual

I'd wager the spiral bound is newer, because it feels like a cost saving decision to move away from the glue bound version. That said, I doubt there is much between them. I have the virtuoso 2000 version and the 2500 command center and even between them, there is little difference apart from the inc...

Re: Speaker attenuators and dummy loads....for dummies!

Thanks everyone, lots of useful comments. Looks like I'm going to go for an fx loop control. I found this, looks like an elegant solution! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186151546713?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8zNWJR4WRD2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=kKcTzs-RSc-&var=&a...

Speaker attenuators and dummy loads....for dummies!

Hi all, I just bought a fender amp and wow! its loud! Its the Blues Delux Reissue 40W tube amp and I wanted something with bags of clean headroom.... tick! But it is so loud, I can't even turn it beyond 1 on the clean channel in anything other than a rehearsal/gig setting! This will be great for gig...

Re: ASIO4ALL problem

Is there a particular reason why you are not using the Behringer ASIO drivers? ASIO4ALL has a specific use, if you are trying to connect two or more different bits of ASIO hardware to your PC and want to combine all inputs and outputs, but all to often it is found to be buggy and with very poor late...

Re: Help with setup

In addition to the 'What is your gear specifically?' question, you probably should also state what you wish to achieve too. Unless you specifically want to record the guitar unaffected signal, why not plug in directly to the amp. Some amps have dedicated line level signals out or you could use a goo...

Re: Sound on Sound magazine no longer catering for old subscribers

What a tight rope! This is a real case of 'you're damned of you do and damned if you don't' I don't think that SOS is, or ever has been discriminatory and I have enjoyed News articles and pieces in the magazine about the likes of Sylvia Massy, Imogen Heap and Anna Laverty, all about the work they do...

Re: Trying to understand digital to digital conversion

So, a few things to unpick here! Firstly the motivation is to have a stand alone music system. I.e. to not require a computer, and that it looks nice in the living room. While (to me) the Cambridge Audio looks nice, my logic falls over quite quickly when you consider that the streamer would be best ...

Trying to understand digital to digital conversion

Apologies, this is really about Hifi rather than recording/performance related. But the understanding generally will be useful to know. The ultimate question is 'Should I buy a network streamer?' The context is that I have recently bought an receiver amp (Cambridge Audio AXR100D) which has an emdedd...

Re: DIY Studio Desk Project

Great desk! Lots of good ideas. Following on from comments about carpentry skills etc, When I made my bespoke desk, I designed it to be made from 2 sheets of 8'x4'x1" ply and found a supplier with CNC capability and had all the pieces precision cut to within 1mm. All I had to do was screw it to...

Re: Graphics Card Upgrade Recommendations

I'm no expert, but my understanding, counter intuitively, was that if the GPU was 'too good ' it could require the use of additional CPU resources, because the cpu has to work harder to keep up with it. So while your graphics may be enhanced, it could actually reduce the cpu bandwidth for audio, giv...
