Re: Using multi socket extension cable?
Ideally you also want to make sure that they are using 1.25mm² cable as a minimum, some cheapo short extensions use thinner cable and it doesn't sit right with me. All of my long extensions I've made are 1.5mm². Agreed - a typical IEC mains cable can be just 1.0mm² (around 8 amp rating), but my DIY...

Re: 9V Guitar Battery
On the 9V rechargeable lithium batteries one this to be aware of is that they generally have some form of regulator to either boost/reduce the voltage to 9V (one or two cells being under 9V and three over) and because of that some can be quite electrically noisy and unsuitable for audio use.

Re: CAT5 instead of CAT6
I understand the reason why AES50 should only use CAT5(e?) is down to how the signal is clocked. I understand that AES50 uses a separate clock transmitted on a different pair to the audio and the different twists on CAT6 and therefore different lengths of cable could potentially cause the clock to b...

Re: Casio SS-1 for a quid
Those look like fun! What time period are they from (search didn't bring up much)? I had something similar from Radio Shack as a kid that plugged in to my cheesy little Radio Shack keyboard. Lots of fun was had! Probably also from Casio as I believe a lot of Realistic keyboards were rebadged ...

Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
No photos as I'm posting this from my phone but two things, CR-78 prototype is ready, it'll be in a TD-3/RD-6 style case, have all the original patterns (who does not want a nice waltz pattern) and it uses the original inductor/coil based filters. Secondly there's a prototype for another mini synth,...

Re: Formatting a HD for MAC and Windows
I do know that my Windows Phone complains about my exfat formatted 512gb SD card and wants to "fix" it (which corrupted it the time I let it!), strangely Windows Phone 10 does not support a NTFS formatted sd card for storage purposes so exFAT is the only option. Note that I have had no iss...

Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
A new prototype tease, this time it's the JT-16 the 16 voice Jupiter 8 clone. To me it looks a bit weird in it's squashed form factor and the fact that the controls end only millimetres from the edge of the case. Has a rack unit vibe to it, kinda looks like part of the case is missing. Certainly not...

To think TV/film puts a lot of effort to hide microphones whereas youtubers seem to like them as big as possible, is an SM7B really the right microphone choice?

Re: Options for playing video backdrops synced to band performance
I guess what you'll need is a HDMI AOC cable, this converts HDMI to optical and back again, with all the electronics in the HDMI connectors at either end. Thomann do some on reels, not exactly cheap but that it kind of understandable. There are also HDMI over Ethernet cable adaptors that may also wo...

Yamaha goes groovy
New product from Yamaha, portable groovebox with drums, AWM2 and 4op FM, looks somewhat reminiscent of something from a certain manufacturer of overpriced stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuEfipnFnq4 Looks interesting and it's been a while since wee seen something like this from Yamaha, the Te...

Re: Small footprint mixer with maximum number of inputs.
Go digital with a rack unit if lack of faders is not a big deal (some can have MIDI faders added) or if the lack of EQ is acceptable then I use an old Roland M-480 line mixer which in a 6U? package gives you 24 stereo inputs, 6 mono aux sends (three switchable pre/post) and stereo returns plus a ran...

Re: Roland A90 repair
Looking at the service notes it uses a regular transformer based supplied followed by the classic 7805, 7812 and 7912 (with seperate windings for the 5V part). Transformer is marked as universal so it should be possible to change the wiring going into the transformer for 230V operation. The only cou...

Re: What happens if I underpower a mixing desk?
Ha! Never trust a retailer's description. :-) I saw that misinformation too... But previous experience of Yamaha mixers informed me that they use AC adapters and it's the label on the adapter that matters.... I would have thought the PA30 would be an adequate alternative to the OP's original supply...
