Re: Simple equipment for speaking at meetings with roving mic
I use exactly that, Yamaha Stagplus, wired mic and a radio mic for the vox pops. 50 people is on the edge of needing a PA system, I seem to remember at school we has classes of 45. And scool assemblies of several hundreds, with no sound reinforecement.

Re: Screen reviews?
The general recommendation for 1920x1080 is 2.5 x picture height. That's assuming perfect vision.

I seem to remember 'Disaster Area' the loudest rock band in the Galaxy in The Hitch Hickers Guide to the Universe. Could this be it?

Re: Headphone cable extender
I'm not all that happy with locking connectors. It may be safer to have plugs fall out to prevent trip hazzards etc. Just a thought....

Re: reel tape will not record
And the famous one for cameras and external recorders. Both pressing RECORD at the same time. As a result a morning wiith absolutely nothing recorderd. When doing some job interviews many years ago, 'What's the worst mistake you've ever made?' Answer, 'I've never made a mistake!' 'OK, when you' ve g...

Re: reel tape will not record
Don't want to sound 'silly' but I assume it is recording tape, not for example leader tape? It has happened. I remember someone 9not me) lacing up a double band projector with the 16mm magnetic on the picture head and vice versa. It CAN happen!

Re: What XLR to XLR leads do you guys use?
There is indeed something very satisfying in making your own leads. Soldering is a skill not all that difficult to learn and very useful if/when things go wrong on location. It can really save the day (I'll share the story one day). And yes, it's silly 'saving' a couple of pounds on cheap and cheerl...

Re: Revox a77 - alignment problems?
RTFM Indeed! Slightly different, but when I had to line up cameras, I would lock the door and disconnect the phone. It was a bit like a computer game, 'You have been killed by a dragon. Play another game?' Except this could easily be, 'You have reset to Factory Setting. Do you want to return the cam...

Re: Souncraft 12 Power Supply Repair
Thanks All What great advice from so many people. I'll give it a go if it's possible to getto the Power Supply without having to remove all the pots on the top of the Mixer. It would be a shame to have to scrap it for the sake of a couple of low cost components. I seem to remember originally buying ...

Re: Souncraft 12 Power Supply Repair
Many thanks for the replies, even if they weren't what I was hoping for. Sounds like, for want of a nail the horseshoe was lost.... I'm, OK at the moment, I bought a redundant but not quite as flexible mixer from Radio Harrow and it does work OK in my studio. But I hate throwing things away. Cheers ...

Re: Portable recorders
There's not really much wrong withthe Zoom H5n or H6n. Both very compact and have buit-in (swappable) mics. For wildlife you may want to consider a gunshot mic. All very different from the EMI 'portable' recorder as used by Sir David Attenborough when he was making Zoo Quest! I've been using my H5n ...

Re: High pitched Whine from stereo mixer
Another thing to check is if you have a cheap and 'cheerful' switch mode power supply in the same space. This was what threw me on my Soundcraft mixer.

Re: Interviews on-the-go
Yes the ZoomH5 is fine. Depending on location and the current Covid situation, I prefer to use a hyper-cardiod such as the Rode NTG-1 on a shoert boom. It does take getting used to but at least you can keep at a safe distance. But I can't help thinking that the skill as an interviewer is far more im...

Re: OLED Displays on Studer On Air 1500
Well, AFAIK the displays are still working, but the Studio is in total lock down. I seem to remember that Studer had to find replacements as the original ones were no longer made. As yes, Studer is hardly pro/am, so all rather dissapointing. In all other aspects the desks perform perfectly. As for s...
