Re: RPi - a beginner's perspective

https://github.com/probonopd/MiniDexed
This is by far the best thing I've ever tried with a raspberry pi. No Linux! No latency. Very little "computing". Instant sounds.
Ps. Well worth adding the DAC board they recommend, about £6. Built in audio not great.

Re: Yamaha MX61 Connecting to Mackie ProFxv3 Series Mixer using stereo channel

Just been using the V2 of this desk today and it definitely has a gain control on the stereo channels. I wonder why Mackie removed it for V3!
No control of line out gain on the KB?
Have you tried the tape inputs with phono sockets? There's a tape inputs gain knob. Maybe they trimmed those away too!

Re: Predicting system latency

To be honest this machine was an eBay punt and it is entirely suitable for general computing. It cost very little so if I end up going out to buy a music dedicated computer I've lost very little.
Thanks all for chipping in

Re: Predicting system latency

Thanks for the advice. I've been using grand orgue (sample based pipe organ) as well as BFD and a trial of scuffham. Only one stand alone instrument per session, no DAW. I've definitely tried core parking, uninstalling the Vega graphic driver, on board sound, adjusting buffer and sample rate and ...

Re: Predicting system latency

It's been a while since I tried TBH but from memory it was either direct x or some windows core driver wfm000 or the like. I don't want to waste your time helping with trouble shooting as I only want to have some fun with scuffham really. The interesting thing was that I thought this fairly modern ...

Predicting system latency

Hi, I've spent some time trying to get low enough latency for playing virtual instruments from my PC. I've carefully been through the booklet from cantible software and various other online resources but haven't yet achieved acceptable results. It's an AMD system on chip business PC so I'm possibly ...

Re: Pots

CTS were to my liking, now installed and doing their job properly. Sourcing suitable knobs as the factory ones are too small for the solid shafts. It's a Chinese Squire thin line and I needed to ream the pickguard holes where the pots mount.

Re: Pipe organ VST or module

Hi Dave, I'm not ruling out flipping this pc and trying with another, but it would be satisfying to get there without more hardware, if possible. Maybe there's something about using open source software on an open source operating system is appealing to me as well. So far, the Linux experiment has ...

Re: Pipe organ VST or module

Update on this project: Father in law is very much enjoying playing Grand Orgue demo with his Hammond as a controller. But for me, it's not quite as good as I think it should be. I bought a recon Lenovo SFF office desktop for £150. AMD ryzen5, NI KA6 audio/midi interface. Windows 11. Install and set ...

Pots

Hello, I'm looking for a recommendation for decent volume and tone pots for a telecaster. I've bought some Bourne branded pots but the spindle has a very low tension. Re: Avoiding "snare rattle" on 10" Tom (when playing and for recording)

I find most rack toms make the snare buzz. But you could try detuning a lug or two on your tom so it doesn't sustain so long, using a dual ply batter head, removing the bottom head or even borrow a different size rack Tom, say 12". I wonder if the music you are making specifically demands a 10". On ...

Re: Short scale tuning issues

I installed a Wilkinson short Tele bridge to the Strat mini. Also fitted some Wilkinson tuners. As if by magic, the intonation issues have evaporated. The strings are easier to tune. Amazingly, I only needed a tiny tweak of the middle saddle to get it spot on. Thank you SOSers, Wonks especially ...

Last question: as this thread is about intonation difficulties, is it really wise to go from 6 saddles to 3? Seems like that is a backwards step in terms tuning. Appreciate your point about string path and stability.

Re: Short scale tuning issues

Reporting back: With some trepidation I removed the nut from the squier strat mini. In fact it was just a friction fit so easy to tap out. Sanded the base on the kitchen worktop.
