Re: AI Music Is Exploding on YT (Probably on the other Streamers)
After a very quick random listen I would say it’s instantly forgettable.

Re: Considering moving from PC to Mac. Low latency performance?
These are Trumpington Alternative Facts!! ...or utter bollix as some say... I've no idea why your PC wouldn't boot up, but it wasn't because MS killed it! I still have an XP machine for some legacy software/hardware that still runs perfectly well. I'll have another go when I'm next home, I ...

Re: Considering moving from PC to Mac. Low latency performance?
Ha ha! You actually click on the Windows logo button, which accesses a whole load of functions — documents, pictures, programs, user-created access tiles, config settings, etc — with one option being the power-related options. It's entirely logical if you understand the concept... I don’t know if th ...

Re: Considering moving from PC to Mac. Low latency performance?
Discuss.... I might not remember this exactly as it was so long ago but I had a MBP with a dual boot Windows system and in order to stop Windows you had to click on the ‘start’ button, not very logical. Windows historically is full of bloatware and in the early days of audio, maybe midi too, y ...

Re: AI Music Is Exploding on YT (Probably on the other Streamers)
I think Google will move the goalposts at some point like they did with Adsense, they found that rankings were inflated by automatic linking by ‘bots’ but the Adsense articles weren’t genuine, just full of keywords and people reading them realised they weren’t actually useful. This hurt their busines ...

Re: Can I get a Midex 8 working on Sequoia 15.5?
It should work, midi is part of the fabric of Logic. I used my EMagic MT8 a while back on my i9 intel iMac but not on my M1 MBP.

It’s ‘Peter Skellern’ and yes they are Hammond organs.

Re: Any PCM91 users here?
As for myself, I suppose I have a foot in both camps. I try to technically understand what’s going on, but I try to not let the technology to get in the way of the creative process and have a bad habit of skimming over manuals (though to my credit I did read the my first Logic manual cover to cover ...

If it is not doing what is expected or desired for you then the search is not over.
Good luck finding what you need.
Arpangel quite likely won’t find what he’s looking for, judging by many of his posts!

Re: PMT in Administration - stores closed
Denmark Street is the one that bums me out the most. As many cafes and coffee shops as guitar shops these days
I don’t know how any music instrument shop continues to trade in central London. The fixed costs must be enormous.

Re: Any PCM91 users here?
I had one and was very pleased with it, I don’t remember it being noisy. It had a wide selection of room types and lengths of reverbs. I sold it when Logic bundled a convolution reverb, I saved the presets after using the impulse response through it and since then I don’t think I’ve used any of them, ...

Re: Dolby Atmos???
'Sticky backed plastic' was Fablon, not Selotape.
Well that's what I thought but one of those "TV in the (insert decade)" documentaries said it was Sellotape.

Re: Dolby Atmos???
I'd like to applaud Luke W for his impressive multi-quote answers here - it takes real effort to do this neatly, but as we can all see, the result is very clear and informative. Bravo   I thought about leaving a more detailed reply but it was late and having recently replied to a troll ...

Re: Dolby Atmos???
Actually, and depressingly, yes. The majority of people I know now only seem to listen through a single voice-controlled speaker! Is that your way of saying 'other brands are available' when you mean Alexa? ;) For years it never occurred to me that Blue Peter references to 'sticky backed plastic ...

Re: Dolby Atmos???
It has to be mixed in atmos from multiple sources in your DAW, unless it’s been recorded live with an ambisonic microphone.
You monitor either binaurally or from a dedicated atmos speaker system i.e. all around plus ceiling mounted speakers.

Re: T-Bone stakes
Ha! it's my tactic, when all around me are using flash gear, I do the opposite.
Generally it’s better to get the best quality you can afford and effect the tracks later (lots of good plugins available these days) than start off with poor quality tracks that need rescuing.

Re: T-Bone stakes
The first review I read of it says it sounds contemporary and has a decent top end so I'm wondering whether it will just be bass heavy rather than vintage sounding. ‘Vintage’ conjurs up carbon granule microphones to me, which sound very middle frequency range. Waves Abbey Road Microphones plugin can ...

Re: Second dynamic microphone adivce (SM57, Beta 57a, E835)
Alright, but apart from the mountings, mic body, transformer, grille and windshielding, Bass roll-off and presence boost switches, how is the SM7B different from the SM58?

Re: Second dynamic microphone adivce (SM57, Beta 57a, E835)
True... and it's the size of a howitzer shell!Does sound good though.
I think that was to compete with the Shure SM7B. I did read that that microphone is essentially the SM58 with a larger windshield.

Re: Big beautiful analogue mixing consoles
Possibly the most nerdy screen blooper that was picked up was on a recent Sky at Night Q&A programme? One of the panel said they were annoyed because the "Arctic" night sky in Titanic was actually tropical Pacific and not in fact 1912! I’m not sure if this is more or less nerdy, I saw a Kenny E ...

Re: Big beautiful analogue mixing consoles
When the edit was finished they'd bring down the 16mm cutting film copy and typically 6-8 reels of sep-mag with two or three of sync sound, one of voice-over, one or two of music, and two or three of effects etc, and we'd mix it in the dubbing theatre. The finished mix was recorded on sep-mag which ...
