Re: Thumb / Finger Picks - Good Starting Point

I started playing about with a steel a few years back. Couldn't get on with thumb and fingerpicks, eventualy settled on hydrid picking. It's not "authentic" but it works for me. I have classical guitar nails though, so there is still a bit of natural pick for the fingers.

Swap out Dorico for Wavelab and you have my experience exactly.

Thanks. I've just spent half an hour tinkering with the demo and this manual is now proving very helpful.

Re: Closed-back headphones

Re the extension cables, Thomann do a cheapish one in their Ssnake line. 5m, locking connector, decent robust quality and fully maintainable (not that I've ever had to). I've had half a dozen of these in service as headphone extensions for nearly 10 years and they are still going fine. They replaced...

Re: How to make a Prog album

For balance, I have always been a huge Yes fan and remember being blown away by 6 Wives when it came out - it really seemed pretty ground breaking at the time. Not really a fan of Wakeman nowadays though and haven't followed his path other than noticing his occasional comings and goings with the Yes...

Re: RX Question (AKA Am I going Mad)?

Spectralayers can do this I believe, although as a long-time RX user who is just starting to get to grips with Spectralayers I haven't tried it myself yet.

I use Session Recall. Very handy for all sorts of outboard including the Bus+ https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/session-recall Thanks, I'll check this out. I've been using it for about a year now and very happy. The chap is super responsive to suggestions or queries and also very quick to put ou...

Re: New to Outboard | 2 Bus Compressor Question

About the SSL Bus+ - This thing sounds amazing. I got to watch it in action again this past weekend. BUT, the menu options! How do you even begin to document recall? It's like counting cards at a Vegas blackjack table. Does anyone own one of these? I'm curious what sort of black magic you use to re...

Re: Plectrum choices

........... As for hybrid style, check out Steve Howe’s close-up videos of him playing ‘The Clap’. Like you say, there's no right answer, you just have to work out what works for you. But of course that may change over time... Coming from starting with classical playing, I always struggled with a p...

Re: Short-scale fretless electric bass

Chowny's have increased in price because production has been moved from the far east to the UK. Although with the way everything is going up, all the move has done is brought on the increase earlier. At least now sourcing them is easier. I wondered if a change of production venue might have been re...

Re: Short-scale fretless electric bass

Mrs Fishnish now plays short scales after a car accident resulting in long term shoulder problems. She has a Chowny SWB 1 Fretless which she likes a lot, its well built and solid with a nice slim neck and fingerboard. Not what one could call a 'lightweight' short scale though! She's had it a few yea...

Re: No Track Sheet in Cubase 8.5 Pro?

I make a fair bit of use of the Cubase Notepad features which are available individually on tracks in the Project Window and channels in the Mix Console, as well as a project global Notepad. If it were needed outside of the project all the Notepad data can be exported as a text file and could be use...

Re: Phantom Power from Preamp to Patchbay?

I have a WA273-EQ which is set up in a similar fashion to the way you describe and it all works fine. Mics (or instruments) get plugged directly in the front and the WA 273's rear line inputs are fed via a patch bay from a pair of outputs on my interface. I only take one pair of outputs from the WA ...

Re: Setting up an extra (remote) display for recording area

Another one for VNC as the remote control service and I use the "RealVNC" clients on mobile to control systems elsewhere. See also Teamviewer as another similar option with free tier which can be slightly easier to setup, although has a more weighty app. Thanks, yes been looking at both V...

Thanks, will check VNC out too.

BTW the Steinberg Cubase iC Pro app discussed above is no longer available for Android. Steinberg apparently dropped it some time ago as they weren't happy with it, so that is now off my list.

What DAW do you use? Some have remote apps that allow basic transport control etc. Cubase. Steinberg does have an app called IC Pro which would appear to give a decent basic set of controls including transport, key commands, cue mixes etc. The Sound on Sound overview was pretty informative, thank y...

Cool! Please let us know the results :) I shall certainly report back as to how I get on. If it works this will be a good step 1. I'd just make sure that the two monitors fed from the splitter are the same native resolution, otherwise things might get a bit 'confused'.
