Re: Before I render a lot of video, advice on the audio settings (dialogue), please

Well, I guess "the consensus is clear" if you exclude over half the respondents. ;-) The argument that those who are fine with it actually don't know enough to trust their ears, is not so persuasive for me. It's like saying even if someone says they like a sample of chocolate, they are wro...

Re: Before I render a lot of video, advice on the audio settings (dialogue), please

Maybe too subjective a thing to have expected a quick-use consensus steer on ... FWIW I've asked here, a trainer in the same medium, and 7 prior students, i.e. folks who by definition are my target audience. The only ones who said it is a barrier are here. Plus there's my own ears, which after these...

Re: Before I render a lot of video, advice on the audio settings (dialogue), please

If I were able (time-wise) to start afresh, the raw audio would indeed be a useful starting point. Whereas here, like Hedwig, I'm doing my best with what I have left to work with. Not quite clever enough to be fully daunted, here is another go. https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8ck10gis6rjmul/tax%20test%20...

Before I render a lot of video, advice on the audio settings (dialogue), please

I'm about to render many, many (300+) short videos for an online course I'll be launching soon. (About wind energy finance). The audio, all dialogue, is now at the stage where I can't undo any DSP-ing done so far, but where I can -- because my video editor, which now has the pre-rendered audio stems...

Re: Thoughts on this mix? (Jazzy-bluesy)

The main issue, for me, though is that the featured guitar part when it comes in at about 1.30 is far, far, too loud in relation to the rest of the track. I wondered the same and now agree. Thanks for all your other comments. Re the politeness and initial samey-ness, fair enough. I think ultimately...

Re: Thoughts on this mix? (Jazzy-bluesy)

Actually apologies to the OP who will doubtless be utterly bemused by my comment above if he isn't aware of the particular seaside/seagulls-based track that we have been party to on this forum for many years. All in stride sir. I didn't catch the allusion but guessed there was one ;-) Thanks ...

Re: Mix / arrangement critique, please

I don't lisp in real life but perhaps some sibilance (used a bright mic) combined with other FX makes it sound that way here. This prompts me to go back and see if I might be able to redo my de-essing (move it earlier in the chain, among other things) It's a weird thing about de-essers that too muc...

Re: Mix / arrangement critique, please

I really appreciate these comments, pro and con. I'm still feeling my way as a mixer, so other ears help a lot. That makes this forum an important place for almost-there-but-still-penultimate mixes, so thanks everyone, big time. I don't lisp in real life but perhaps some sibilance (used a bright mic...

Re: Mix / arrangement critique, please

Thanks for feeding back. May I ask, what were you listening to it on, and also, can you specify a couple of places where you hear lisping?

Anyone else?

Mix / arrangement critique, please

Hi all, I'd welcome comments, niggles etc on the mix, arrangement and overall "enjoyability" (or not!) of this cover of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" https://soundcloud.com/st-josephs-social-club/50-ways-to-leave-your-lover-paul-simon-cover" target="phpbbpo...

Re: Ozone 7 Elements' "Video Streaming Master" on the 2buss ?

I found this excellent article on mastering for the various streaming platforms https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2016/9/6/video-mastering-using-lufs It seems designed in part to help sell the Levels plug-in, but it seems you can apply what it says using this free LUFS meter https://youlean...

Re: POLL: RIP Cakewalk: what DAW will you use now?

Because I doubt I will be able to carry on with Sonar, my main DAW, after my present PC packs up, I'm moving to another DAW now. I've been using Mixcraft 8 for three weeks now andam by and large very happy. The learning curve has been slight coming from a Cakewalk / CoolEdit / Acid / Sonar / Acid Pr...

Re: Ozone 7 Elements' "Video Streaming Master" on the 2buss ?

Or maybe this might be a better solution? https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/mastering-mix-levels I'd much prefer something like this, where I have a meter telling me when my offline ears might fail to anticipate streaming problems, leaving it to me to fix it my way, than to accept this one (only ...

Ozone 7 Elements' "Video Streaming Master" on the 2buss ?

Realistically I suspect that most people will listen to my stuiff if I put it on Youtube. (Many people have told me Soundcloud can be fiddly on an iPhone; I don't want fiddly, I want dead easy). Now, I'm tired of mixing / mastering so that the WAV sounds great on my monitors / mixing cans, but the f...
