Re: Soundcraft Spirit Folio 10-2 mixer - need resistor values
sounds like a plan! Showing my ignorance, but when you say 'meter out the rails'... do you mean check for any continuity between the +15v, 0v, -15v rails from the power input or something else?

Re: Soundcraft Spirit Folio 10-2 mixer - need resistor values
sorry about that! Not being in any way experienced in these matters, I didn't think the revision number would be that crucial. I've emailed support at soundcraft website (info@soundtech.co.uk), in the hope that I can get the right schematic. As far as I can tell, it's not to be found anywhere online ...

Re: Soundcraft Spirit Folio 10-2 mixer - need resistor values
Fantastic responses all... thank you so much! Looks like my hope of 'just' replacing 3 resistors was a little naive then... The schematic I linked was the closest thing I could find online, it would be great if I could find the exact one... don't suppose anyone can suggest a source online that ...

Soundcraft Spirit Folio 10-2 mixer - need resistor values
Hey all... I just acquired one of these: https://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/small-but-perfectly-formed/10492 a nice little 1990s mixer. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. The problem seems to be with the master side, basically, there's a very low level distorted output in the left channel and nothing ...

Re: Bending | String under or on
Up and down sides to both in my experience. I find the low frets on my Gibson tend to encourage me to slide more in my playing, e.g instead of doing a hammer-on/off i'd slide up or down to the note. Also, it just feels more "slick" moving up and down the neck as you hardly notice the frets are there ...

Re: Bending | String under or on
I have very low actions on my guitars, so there's no over or under for me; all the strings just get pushed sideways next to each other. Same for me... I actually have incredibly low frets (like paper matches from a matchbook laid across the finger board is one apt description I saw somewhere). It's ...

Re: overcoming dull, boxy, harsh sound of cheap dynamic mics
Various mic setups can be successful for narration. Recently I've been using a DPA 2006C omni mic in upright position. it's covered by a heavy blanket on a higher stand, so no room sound at all, and I'm very close to the mic. https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ...

Re: overcoming dull, boxy, harsh sound of cheap dynamic mics
I am glad you have found a solution RionZ but would like to point out that the M99 is hardly a 'typical' dynamic microphone? It is actually designed to mimic to some degree the characteristics of capacitor mics it is also a hypercardiod whereas most dynamics are just cardiod. I cannot find a price ...

Re: Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
Ok so here goes... gulp... It turns out my "rode" cable had fallen onto a small DC power supply behind my desk! My apologies to all... However... I did learn something interesting about shielding/grounding, my thanks for that. It turns out both cables are electrically continuous between pin 1 and ...

Re: overcoming dull, boxy, harsh sound of cheap dynamic mics
Just to say... I was using a Rode NT1a for audiobook narration for about a couple of years, before switching to a Beyerdynamic M99. I also had the same debate (with myself!) about whether or not it would/should pick up less extraneous noise, however there was another factor in my decision to go ...

Re: Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
I didn't really mean to malign Rode as a company! As far as the Rode NT1a goes, it's a fantastic mic at that price point. And, given the price, I wouldn't expect a top-notch cable to be thrown in to the bundle. Furthermore, I should point out that as far as the NT1a mic is concerned, there was no ...

Re: Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
recently I switched from a Rode NT1a condenser to a Beyerdynamic M99 dynamic mic Why have you changed microphones, has the NT1a gone to microphone heaven? No the NT1a is still good! I decided to change to a dynamic specifically for audio voiceover narration work - the dynamic picks up less ...

Re: Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
Thanks Hugh for a very informative reply, Not too sure about the internal "lay length" of each cable - hard to tell without dissecting them. As for chassis ground to pin 1, I can confirm both cables are wired that way. The equipment is a Focusrite Forte. Again, I haven't dismantled the interface to ...

Re: Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
Actually I'm going to qualify what I said about Stageline cables... the ones I have were bought about 15 - 20 years ago as far as I can remember!
Whether or not they're still decent... I guess I'll find out next time I need to buy some cables

Rode cable... noise with a dynamic mic
Hey folks... made interesting discovery this evening. I do a lot of spoken word recording, which ends up getting anywhere from 6 to 12db added in post production, and so am acutely aware of any background hiss or line noise now matter how small. Just recently I switched from a Rode NT1a condenser to ...

Proper Bitrate analysis
Hey folks... Looking for a definitive answer on this one as it can be a cause of much confusion... I've been making some direct (loopback) recordings of HD music streams from Amazon HD music. Just out of interest, I thought I would try to test if they truly are "HD". I've been recording into WAV ...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 interfaces...
Having pondered a bit, I think I'll aim for the RME in the long run... if only for the German build quality and continued driver support - other than that, the Quantum does all the same things. This is more of a long-term goal really... A big part of what got me into looking for a better interface ...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 interfaces...
Well folks... in the end it's the RME fireface 802 that wins out for me... plenty of anologue i/o, word clock both in and out, plus the ADAT and low latency capability... and being USB helps in my setup. Yes, it's at least double the price of the Quantum, but also gives me more than double the ...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 interfaces...
If the Presonus fits your requirements and your budget don't write it off. It might not give you quite the lifespan that RME's legendary support does, but it might be the right tool for you at the moment. Certainly a contender, great bit of kit for the money. I also like that it has MIDI in/outs ...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 interfaces...
From what I've gleaned, while it is possible to use the firewire>usb converters on PC, it's a bit of a gamble whether it works and certainly sounds a bit unstable in practice. Great suggestion about the RME digiface USB... I've actually looked at these many times in the past since I have an old ...

Re: Thunderbolt 3 interfaces...
Thanks guys, reading around a bit it certainly seems it's more to with well-written divers than what i/o protocol is used. Seeing some old RME's with firewire at low prices, but they're no use to me... unless anyone knows of a way they can be used via usb/thunderbolt? Other than that, the RME stuff ...
