Re: The best home studio monitors

I'm very happy with my iLouds, they tick all the boxes for me as a hobby / demo mixer rather than someone trying to make serious commercial recordings. They work well as monitors for a Pod Go for electric guitar - I'd be vary of playing an uncompressed bass guitar through them at any kind of volume....

Re: Bass for a small lady

I've got one of these https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/right-handed-bass-guitar/gretsch-g2220-electromatic-junior-jet-bass-ii-walnut-stain-short-scale-electric-bass-guitar That I use for gigs, with flat wound strings and a felt mute and it's great for thumping bass lines. It's also a lot easier on my spin...

Re: Are you TONE DEAF or MUSICALLY GIFTED?

No minds eye is a thing, which surprised me, and talking about it resulted in the discovery that my partner of 20+ years hasn't got a minds eye either. What types of stuff do you see. You don't have to say if you don't want to. It's probably best described as a visual memory - I can see something I...

Re: Are you TONE DEAF or MUSICALLY GIFTED?

On the other hand, I have a serious deficit in visual imagery. Most people can visualise things in their heads pretty well. But I really don't see anything much. Similarly I'm quite poor at remembering faces. Me too, especially the visualisation bit, I don’t seem to have a “mind’s eye”. But, do you...

Re: Guitar Amp Squeal?

It's only ever happened to me twice - second time around I knew how to solve the problem straight away and avoided the 40mins of head scratching during the soundcheck.

Re: Guitar Amp Squeal?

I had a mystery very high pitched feedback issues once, I finally figured out it was being caused by the venue's loop system for hearing aids. The single coil pickups on my guitar were picking up the signal from the loops system and with enough volume created a feedback loop. Once the loop was turne...

Re: 10 inch tops or 12 inch over 15 subs

I don't think I've got a clear answer, but some considerations: Is size weight an issue? - 10's edge a win. Horizontal coverage might also be slightly better with the 10's I'd have to check specs to be sure. Will you ever want to leave the subs at home? - the 12's will give you more option to do thi...

Re: Advice needed for In-Ear Monitor Setup

If you go down the wired route or even if you don't, It would be worth getting a Behringer P2 or equivalent as a back up unit in case of connection issues. It's not that expensive compared to a lot of the IEM kit. Best to look for something that has a limiter built in as the P2 does, some of the oth...

Re: Advice needed for In-Ear Monitor Setup

Hello and welcome Apologies for an unsolicited answer to questions that you are yet to ask, but I play with a couple of drummers that use IEM systems and have found their way with them over time and thought it might be useful to share their and my experiences. The first thought that came to mind was...

Re: Amp for Cello

I've never tried to amplify a cello. But it makes good sense to have a system that can amplify a wide range of frequencies. I'd recommend getting the pick-up / mic system sorted then experimenting with a few options before buying anything. Options that come to my mind: Using a preamp of some kind - ...

Re: Recommendations for portable guitar practice with headphones

I've gotten by with a Pocket Pod for some time, it's a little old hat compared to the modern modellers but it's okay - not amazing, but good enough. I used to carry it with me to gigs as an emergency rig with the confidence that it could be used if my amp went caput. You'd get a second had one for £...

Re: LR Baggs Element End Pin Preamp Woes

Thanks to all that contributed to my thread. By way of an update, the nice people from LR Baggs have offered to post me the correct jack socket for free for a DIY repair, or will service the unit via posting it to the USA for a flat fee of $45. Both of these options strike me as a very good approach...

Without wanting to be offensive and or insulting...

Sounds like it's a dual action truss rod, you definitely turned it the right way? It's the kind of mistake I could make even though I've worked on quite a few guitars, hence the question.

Re: DI levels/tones and bass guitar EQ process question

A couple of thought from me, but I'm no expert on this stuff. The bass.. What's the pickup height on the bass? - I'm wondering if they are a touch on the high side. Lowering the pickups a tad might solve the output level trouble, but will change the sound of the bass a little. You'd need to google t...

Re: LR Baggs Element End Pin Preamp Woes

hi you all, thought I'd chime in on your issue since I recently replaced my anthem sl jack as it had gotten intermittent due to lack of enough spring tension on the contacts. I play out five nights a week and so the jack gets excessive use...however, Caleb has been great company rep and has sent me...

Re: LR Baggs Element End Pin Preamp Woes

I'll have a play around with what I've got but, I think I'll need the a 4 conductor jack socket, I might have one somewhere in my box of bits. I'm not totally sure about getting all to screw together neatly, but I always have the option of extending some wires and mounting the preamp unit inside the...

Re: LR Baggs Element End Pin Preamp Woes

Thanks Wonks I'd not thought of the potential for the preamp bit fitting on a standard barrel jack - that's a fix I can do and makes the most sense economically. I have a switchcraft jack socket already as I'd ordered this in anticipation of just changing the unit - then I found the extra gubbins in...

LR Baggs Element End Pin Preamp Woes

Hi All, I've offered to fix my band mates acoustic as the jack connection is intermittent. The problem appears to be in the socket of the end pin jack it one of the ones with the pre-amp built. The cable jack plug can wobble in it a little and this can cause a disconnection. My guess is that a cable...

Re: Pub Band - what's changed since 2020

Personally it's been the move to a stage box digital mixer. In my case a Mackie DL16s. It's been a steep learning curve with some midly embarrassing, stress inducing, but not fatal mistakes along the way. The audio processing power is remarkable and it makes for a better sounding show from my experi...

Re: Changing iTunes media folder location to external SSD

I'm very rusty on deep dives into windows and my knowledge is likely quite out of date, but it might be something that you can write into the registry to keep it fixed or write a .bat file to write the values into the registry on start up. A quick google produced this: https://discussions.apple.com/...
