Re: Prodipe TT1 Pro-Lanen Dynamic Microphone
I have 3 of these mics. After a few years (maybe 5?) of fairly light use, only one still works! One died after the mic stand it was attached to fell over. The other I’m not really sure. I will get around to trying to fix them at some point, but a quick poke around inside reveals a little lump of c ...

Re: Modular time waster gets axed
However. Unless you are John Williams or Hans Zimmer, it might just be that making music isn't necessarily vitally important. Instead, the simple joy of knob twiddling and patching as a kind of hybrid music/scientific experiment could take you away from the troubles of this world and somewhere else ...

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
I’m in at least, but not the soundproofed side. Still, nice to have somewhere to put my gear (even though the kids have nicked a lot of it these days!).
Maybe get see if I can progress the studio side this year.

Re: Windows on a MacBook - audio drivers
Made the mistake of connecting to the internet. Now Windows wants to be re-registered, and has dropped a handy reminder for me in the bottom right screen 🤬 Still, works and currently in use with MrsSouls. Will get around to sorting the registering at some point, then sort some more RAM. My mate is go ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Thanks both - will try harder next time!
Been playing this kit a lot! Need to experiment with coverings as it’s a bit too sensitive as-is. Maybe a simple thin patch of rubber to absorb some excess energy will do it…

Re: Windows on a MacBook - audio drivers
It rebooted a couple of times on the first power up, like it was just trying to figure out what was going on! But no interventions from me (which is a good job, as I am clueless). Works perfectly now. Mac OS would be the obvious and ideal, but I have a nice little set up that I’m familiar with and a ...

Windows on a MacBook - audio drivers
Not sure if this should be in the other subforum, but here we go… I was recently gifted a late 2008 MacBook. Had a bit of a read ont’ net - obvious thing to do was pop an SSD in. As luck would have it, I have the old SSD that I pulled out of my Acer Windows laptop just after it died. Put the Windows ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Yeah, I’ve performed minor surgery with a scalpel too! Might spring for a new set of rubbers at some point. I’m an eternal tinkerer though, so going to give my alternative (and significantly cheaper) way a go first. Will be nice if I can integrate a proper pedal. The sensor I ordered is apparently no ...

So nice to be able to play again, even if half the BD hits are missing!

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Right. The sensor is linear in shape, and volume is determined by how much of the correspondingly shaped rubber bit touches the sensor. When tapping it directly, I can only get full volume. Hmm. Think the thing to do is get one of those circular sensors, and experiment with coverings.

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Wonks, this is exactly the sort of thing I came here for - Thank you! The online fixes are all temporary, and would only return the pedal to its former self for a couple of years. It lacks the feel of a real pedal even when working correctly. Hence my musings. I plan to crack open the kick pedal ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
I’ve had them apart and cleaned them. Seems the issue is a common one - the rubber springs that sit between the underside of the pedal and the flat sensor harden over time. A new set would only be £20, but I just thought it might be more fun to find some way of interfacing some piezo pads. I could th ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Thanks Wonks! Yeah, I don’t want to spend money on it, just wanted to use what I have. I should be saving my pennies to finish the room to put my acoustic kit in! The HD1 pedals are velocity sensitive, and I can pull the TS jack out the back, but the way the brain deals with the signal is different t ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Yep. Already tried it. Don’t work. I’ve read it’s a different type of sensor in the pedal (and therefore a different way of processing the signal in the brain) than the usual piezo-based stuff. The snare/toms/cymbals are piezo, but not the stupid pedals. The optimist in me believes there is some simp ...

Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
I was recently given an old Roland HD-1 electric kit by a friend as a thank you for doing some mastering for them. Nice! The pedals are both suffering from a stiffening of the rubber actuators (not sure of the correct name), so will need replacing. Looks like they’ve been done by a previous owner o ...

Can’t believe this is still not finished! Started 5 yrs ago. Wow. The roof has been sorted out/vented, 2 layers of plasterboard with green glue in between stuck to the bottom of the rafters.
