Re: Soundproof Garden Music Room/Studio
Might be worth contacting some of the prefab companies to see if they have any previous builds you could visit? That would answer the question of whether they do a good enough job or not.

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Glad I posted before I got too far down that road. I’ll do the cold roof, as that’s what’s in the “Build it like the pros” book.

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Oh and the statement that prompted the “airtight” question related to using kingspan and expanding foam as a cheaper option than spray foam, as that quote was £1400. Not got that far yet.
PPS, there are vents going in, too.

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Photos to follow, Drew! James - glad you asked. I realize I’ve wandered off the path of what is tried and tested and probably should work my way back on track. Not too much bother (my motto throughout this has been “it’s a nice problem to have”) as I’ve not started anything costly, but here’s my ide...

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Flippin’eck it’s been a while… So after my first builder retiring due to ill health, lockdown, lockdown price rises, everything else price rises, yadda yadda yadda… I have a completed outer shell. It looks ace. The walls are very dense, but the roof is about 30kg per square meter. 40 would have been...

Re: My Studio Build
Nice! Lots of character, and hopefully an inspiring environment in which to create. I started mine 4 years ago, still quite a way off! I too am going to go the recycle/reuse way out of necessity - money (or lack of) being the main factor!

Re: Project studio mixing consoles of the past – where’d they go?
Not 70’s, but a friend found a Tascam M1600 on the roadside. It still works fine and is currently waiting for my studio to be built, where it will be put to use once more!

Re: Custom bass cab
Check out Basschat - there are a few guys there who have published free to use plans for varying sized cabs. I have just completed a micro cab from their designs - it’s awesome!

That eBay fella does 100mm;

I’ve not got to pricing these yet, so how does £55 per panel compare with building your own?

Re: Acoustic glass & HVAC system recommendations please!!!
Thanks for the replies, chaps! I’ve done a lot of reading on what I need glass-wise, so happy with the construction requirements, I just wandered if anyone had a recommendation for a company whose work left you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. HVAC I’m a little less familiar with. I’ve previously h...

Acoustic glass & HVAC system recommendations please!!!
Hello friends! As per the title, do any of you fine folk have experience or knowledge of glass and/or air con companies based in the UK that understand the needs of a music studio? My build will be modest (a lot more humble than my initial plans) but I do want decent isolation still. Thanks in advan...

Re: AKG D190e - is this mic a secret?
Thank you for taking the time to do that, Martin!
Looks like this D590 I have has a smaller capsule than a standard D190. Might be standard or might have been swapped out at some point. It rattles around in the basket, so I’ll have to just bodge something with foam.

Re: Growly Bass
Growl makes me think of pickup placement. P-bass position not so much, but chuck a J/bridge in to the mix and that will get it there. In my opinion. Your “growl” might sound different to my “growl”.

Re: AKG D190e - is this mic a secret?
FWIW, I don’t think it’s a great mic, I just don’t like throwing things away!
I do really rate the D130 as a drum overhead, though...

Re: AKG D190e - is this mic a secret?
Hello chaps.
Opening up an old thread here, but I have the gooseneck variant of this (D590) but the foam around the capsule is long gone.
Can anyone with a serviceable D190 post some pictures of the capsule with the grill off please? I’m going to try to fashion my own replacement!

Re: New (imperfect) Garden Studio Build
Fingers crossed. One thing that I've discovered is the value of just having a dedicated space to create. Acoustically treated/sound-proofed or not. :) Oh, absolutely! As soon as we’d decided to do a build, little pieces of domestic normality started creeping in to my hitherto dedicated music room i...

Re: New (imperfect) Garden Studio Build
Oh, man - this is basically what I’m doing, only I’ve been plagued by setbacks! My foundation has been in for over 12 months. Hopefully starting on the walls soon... What is your roof construction? Any extra layers of mass loaded vinyl? Do the blocks of the wall go up around the joists? That’s a wea...
