Re: Drum machine/synthesis for a special needs kid
I’ve got a Volca Beats that is very popular with my daughter (3) and some older children of friends (ages 7 & 4) that have also come round and played with it. Lots of tactile control but still easy to use, can be used with the little built in speaker or headphones / line out. You can pick them up s ...

Re: Electric guitar for a beginner
For the music you are looking to play I suspect you’ll probably be happiest with an Ibanez, LTD or Schecter. Even their entry level guitars ‘feel’ metal and should have high output humbuckers and fairly fast necks. Definitely try some out in a store and buy the one you enjoy playing. Also bear in min ...

Re: Do you know a good compressor for the Fender American Deluxe Guitar?
I have a boss CS3 that can get pretty extreme but used carefully you can use it fairly transparently.

I thought I would bring this thread back because I too decided I needed a Marshall and I wanted a small versatile combo I bought a SC20C which is the JCM800 in a 20W (switchable to 5W) combo with a celestion V type 10” There’s a low sensitivity input capable of glassy cleans and loads of headroom (bu ...

Re: Recommend budget "dial-a-tone multi fx" to cover a covers gig
I vote for the Digitech RP series I have the RP360 and it covers a lot of ground. FX, drive, amp and cab sim etc You can set it in preset mode to switch between sounds or use it as 3 discrete FX on / off per preset There’s the option of adding an extra control pedal to do both functions at once, I t ...

I agree with the vote for Digitech. Had a pocket pod in the past but it didn’t respond as well to playing dynamics as the digitech.

Drum software for V drum player?
My brother is a drummer with no interest in recording, and an old-ish model Roland TD9 kit. He mainly practices on headphones. I wondered if playing through a drum software library would sound more like a kit in a room and was curious if anyone here had any recommendations for products that would ...

Re: Help with metal tone!
Do you have any particular references for what you'd like your tone to be? Bands or tracks you rate? I have the super badass and can get decent metal tones (to my ears) from it into a clean amp - but perhaps you have a specific sound in your head?

Re: Public events with PA, recording and streaming at the same time
George, not related to the audio side of things but Re your original post I can confirm the Sony alpha series will happily record to an internal card while streaming video through the micro hdmi output (they will output whatever you see on the camera screen so remember to turn off the overlay with ...

Re: Newbie Question: Do I need to actually record a click track with each instrument take
Thanks to all of you for your replies. I have sooo much to learn. The reason I was looking at the mixer/USB combos was that I also need something to use to practice that I can mix audio out from my phone with an instrument into headphones and those seemed that they would do double duty. But perhaps ...

I don't know why but the Animoog, Model 15, Minimoog and Filtatron apps are all currently free on the app store.
I've only had a quick play but was quite impressed with the sounds I got out of the mini and model 15 in particular.

Re: Strymon Riverside - Very quiet. What else has such a low noise design?
I noticed a massive drop in the noise level of several pedals when I started using a properly isolated power supply. Even things like my boss EQ that had always had a bit of hiss is now silent.
In terms of quiet analogue pedals the j rockett drive pedals are very low noise.

Re: What is your favourite distortion plugin and why?
I'm quite lazy and often just use the Logic overdrive or bitcrusher, or both. Often both. SPL twintube is good for more saturated rather than gnarly sounds

Re: HELP! Drowning in information!!! Studio Microphone Setup for Podcast / Streaming / Interview
Agree, don't worry about mics being in shot. It's almost a stylistic choice for a lot of YouTube video makers to have their equipment prominent so I think most people wouldn't be shocked to see some gear. It's also common to see videos and photos taken in radio studios with the equipment in full ...

Re: Annihilation 2018 film bass sound
I've read an interview that mentioned it was an Oberheim 2 voice. The distortion sounds a bit like the tone of a guitar amp to me but I'm sure I read the composers used a bit reduction distortion. I really like the doubling / reflective effect. Not sure if the synth could do it or if it was an ...
