Re: Should I Reach for EQ or the Fader to Tame High End in a Mix?
Do you not mix as you go? Also, I try and not listen to individual elements in isolation, always listen in the context of the rest of the mix. That way you can get the big picture, and any EQ, or other issues will stand out. I do mix as I go but here's where I think I've been going wrong: - Over ...

Re: Should I Reach for EQ or the Fader to Tame High End in a Mix?
As always, lots of great feedback to chew on. I truly appreciate your insight. After a few more listens, I've come to the realization that I tend to add too many high end percussive parts to my arrangements. I'm definitely going to reduce the number Consider keeping the number (or not reducing them ...

Should I Reach for EQ or the Fader to Tame High End in a Mix?
Hello SOS Folks! When finalizing a mix, I never know the best way to tame the high end in a mix. Should I roll off the highs on the hi-hat, cymbals tambourine, shaker or lower them in the mix? Or maybe both? Do you roll off some highs when mastering? Perhaps I'm adding too many percussion sounds ...

Re: active balanced/unbalanced converters
I just integrated a patch bay into my studio and have a mix of balanced and unbalanced instruments going in with no issues. You should be fine. I'm using the Samson patch bay.

Re: Speaker Pops When Powering DIY Cube Speakers
I added the speaker mute switch along with the bleed resistor and it works like a charm! I tried different resistor values until settling on 1k ohm. Thank you all so much for your help!
The speakers sound great. Mostly midrange which is what I was looking for. This was a fun project!

Re: Speaker Pops When Powering DIY Cube Speakers
I'm located in the US where I purchased the Kemo amp module from an online dealer called Parts Express. And yes, I'm running the amplifier module using a wall wart. As such, I'm reluctant to add a delayed relay that would need AC power. I'll be adding a speaker mute switch that should do the trick ...

Re: Speaker Pops When Powering DIY Cube Speakers
Thank you all very much for your thoughtful replies. It's much appreciated. I think I'm going to go the route of adding a switch to the speakers. That should do the trick. The delay relay circuit was a nice option but I don't have any AC voltage in the speaker, just 18VDC. I must say, this was my ...

Speaker Pops When Powering DIY Cube Speakers
I made my own powered cube speakers, along the lines of Auratones as a midrange reference. I'm using a Kemo 18W power amplifier in each speaker (Model No. M033N). I get a loud pop when I power up the speaker. Has anyone encountered a similar issue and if so, were you able to find a remedy (e.g ...

Re: Experiences with Sonarworks Reference 4 Studio
Wrong place. Switch on Cubase's 'Control Room' and put the plug-in in the insert slots there. That's a nice feature - does that let you put plugins basically *after* the mix render bus? Yep. It's one of Cubase's best features and it dismays me that I see it switched off for the majority of Cubase ...
