"Clearing the Decks"

I've got a couple of recent albums on Bandcamp. Some of which has been on Soundcloud, most hasn't. These consist of pieces I have written over the years that haven't been part of anything else. https://richhanson.bandcamp.com/album/clearing-the-decks-volume-1 https://richhanson.bandcamp.com/album ...

Re: Ears and EQ imbalance/Hearing test accuracy

Back when I started to suspect I had issues I tried this test:

https://hearingtest.online/

Needs a quiet space and a decent pair of headphones.

When I went for a proper hearing test, the results matched very closely the online test.

Re: AI Music Generators

AI doesn't make music, it just makes something that sounds like music. A bit like me taking a picture of the The Mona Lisa and saying that its art; its not art, its a photograph of art. This. I reject the comparison with previous technologies. Whatever you think of distorted guitars, synthesisers ...

There is an interesting discussion in the comments below that video as the guy that developed it has responded - see the pinned comment (as ever with YT comments it does eventually disintegrate into mush though)

Re: USB DVD

I bought a cheapy USB DVD drive ages ago for a PC with a poorly drive.

I have successfully used it on my MacBook too.

These things are generally class compliant, so the OS will automatically know how to deal with them.

Re: Stopping buying stuff

Ever since I installed Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol (oh! the irony!) I get a core MIDI error every time I start Logic. I don’t. I have an Apple M1 MBP 13” laptop. I have an Apple M1 laptop, and I still can’t install Reaktor, as it’s not supported yet. Yes it is. I've just double checked and R ...

Re: IKMultimedia Total Studio Max 4

In terms of the sample content, you can install as much or as little as you like. 100 GB will be enough for just the plug-ins, but only enough for a small amount of the sample content. I keep my sample content on an external SSD - I've just had a look at the IK stuff and it takes up 627 GB.

Re: I discovered Cherry Audio soft synths

I find that on the CA synths with varying quality (oversampling) settings there is a noticeable sweetening of the sound for higher settings at the expense of CPU usage. I don't normally worry too much about the CPU though as I tend to convert them to audio as soon as I'm happy (ok, less unhappy :D ...

Re: One Synth Challenge 2024

This is all fascinating stuff, and proves that the choice of a synth doesn't predetermine the likely musical output. Like others here, I have no chance of matching the sounds with the list of synths, and although like Bob I did recognise a familiar voice tucked into one of the tracks, that still ...

That's interesting as I thought Largo was supposed to be the software equivalent. I might have to dig in to see what the differences are, it's a long time since I had a Blofeld.

Three days to go for any late comers...

That said, although ostensibly the deadline is Sunday, in reality I'm not going to be able to get to publishing until after work on Monday, so in essence you've got until about 5pm on Monday.

Re: Fishman Triple Play Wireless Users?

I had one a few years back when it first came out. I remember the tracking was excellent. I also remember that the wireless side was less than stellar, it would often drop out, it seemed to have little resilience when there were a number of signals competing for space in the same frequency band.

Why the heck is this called the One Synth Challenge 2024 if it takes place in 2025? Well it did start two months ago when it was still 2024, so...
