Re: Stopping buying stuff

The problem is exacerbated by devs all relying on the same 3rd/4th/5th party platform provider so all the crap looks the same except has different colors and branding. Same bugs, same limited choices, same boring uninspired caca doodoo for the consumer masses, of which I appear to be one ...

Re: AI Generated Music - Need your opinions

In my opinion, AI is unwelcome. Not just in music, but in all arts and in human life entirely. What a foolish pursuit. But that's just my opinion. I don't understand the dichotomy, I just don't get it. Processed junk food is food (obviously) and a la carte home made meal is food as well, both are ...

Re: Your best hackjobs

I recently discovered I could use a pen tube to isolate multicore wires in mic cables for stripping. Keep the one you need to strip out, fold the others back along the cable, insert into tube and voila! only one strand is exposed to face the wire stripper jaws - no more hassle fighting several wires ...

Re: Ok so I'm bit embarrassed about this but....

There's too many mics to mention in that price range. There's definitely a mic out there for your voice, it's just a matter of finding it! or them really... I have a Telefunken TF29 which is by far the nicest sounding mic I personally own. The Alchemy series in general is pretty great. It's very ...

Re: Fender Blues Jr. ? (No classic Blues tones?.

Best thing to do imo is go to Guitar Center or another big box store with lots of stock and spend some time with the amps. Also, if any of the buskers in downtown Memphis are playing through amps, find out what they are and talk to them about how they get that tone. Every houn'dog I've ever run ...

Re: Behringer price alert

*snark alert*

If you can't take it with you, take someone else's.

As an aside, I find it telling that Islam is the only religion I know of that forbids charging interest on loans.

Re: Regulated vs unregulated 9V DC power supply

Does the power supply work properly with other pedals after the event? What does "blow up" mean here? Just an unresponsive pedal or a smell of burning? Smoke? Maybe it just died?

Aslo, not all pedal are center negative. A small few are center positive I believe.

Re: Research materials. Tuning a room

awesome! Thanks Hugh

Richard - yes indeedy. I live in a remotish area and would prefer to pick the brains of the experienced but haven't locked in with the crew yet. As they say: "when the student is ready, the master will come" - I guess I'm not ready yet!

Re: Research materials. Tuning a room

Thanks Bob, I get it, there are many aspects to goals in music and music related endeavors. I've spent about 50 years learning how to play many instruments, 15 years working in IT Security, 25 years as an auditor, rising to the level of Director at a Bank. I lived out of a backpack and hitch hiked ...

I'd want to, but in order to learn, once must suffer the pains. It's a bit presumptuos to interfere with someone's learning curve imo.

Re: Research materials. Tuning a room

Exactly. Before I go out and talk to an expensive pro, I'd like to arm my understanding with principles. I'm hoping to find a tome wherein the topic is discussed in some detail. Following that I can consider the value of a paid opinion. My objective with my studio is not commercial success, it is ...

Research materials. Tuning a room

Bear with the monologue, I do have a question somewhere in here...I have spent many long hours learning about room treatment, absorption, diffusion, sound "proofing" isolation, etc. I've read many articles here, have a well thumbed copy of the Master's Handbook of Acoustics, etc. I have 7 or 8 ...

Re: In Ear Monitors recommendations please?

I've got a pair of Shure Se215's I've used for probably 12 years or so. They're fine for me. Single driver. Playing live I don't demand high fidelity since I'm performing, not "listening" to the sonics as much as cues. I like the isolation they give though the ear foam can slip out of my ear a bit ...

Re: Another ridiculous question - waveform distorions/harmonics?

No battery. Just an ol' P-bass. Thanks for taking the time to investigate. It'll probably be related to this video monitor's refresh rate or something arcane and esoteric.

As Joe Walsh said..."Sometimes, I can't help but feelin' that I'm living a life of illusion"

Re: Another ridiculous question - waveform distorions/harmonics?

I notice that the second and third harmonic start at a similar level to the fundamental but they sustain for much longer - particularly the second harmonic. I would guess that you are plucking the string fairly near the bridge. Plucking the string further from the bridge should give more of the ...

Another ridiculous question - waveform distorions/harmonics?

Being the rookie that I am, I would like to ask the pros here to lighten the burden of my ignorance. Below are three screen shots of a 1.6 second long section of a bass line. It is the same section at different zoom levels so don't mind the apparent amplitude differences. Super imposed on the bass ...

 yea. nice summary doc thank you. I'm ready to go deeper into circuit design a bit. I've always sort of assumed the ADC sits across all inputs and the DAC across all outputs. I hadn't realized the clock was regulating power as well. I have a military electronics background in RADAR and ...

Re: Device sync follow up

It may be worth saying that you can't sync the ASP880 via ADAT unless you use it as the master clock. It only accepts external sync via word clock. Thanks James! I rewired the clocking so that the Focusrite and the Apollo are both set to their own internal clocks. The Focusrite drives the Pulse via ...

Re: Am I missing a trick with any part of this kit list?

I have no experience of RME other than hearing the SOS fanbase choir singing their praises.
