Re: Adding a Second PC - Which Interface?
Go ahead an recycle it or give it away. Too slow for audio use.

Re: When did pop music get so… simple?
Elvis and Dylan are the culprits. Before them, Mitch Miller ruled pop music - professional composers and orchestras and trained singers, albeit a bit corny sometimes. Elvis showed that the simplest stuff could sell millions. And Dylan showed that instrumental and vocal talent are not needed either ...

Re: Fender Acoustasonic Guitar + Battery Life
I haven't read much of this thread, but my 2 cents, having used one now for a month or so (Stratocaster Acoustasonic US made), is that this is an absolutely terrific instrument. I have owned lots of guitars and this is my favorite since it provides much of (but not all) the sounds and playability of ...

Madrona Labs Software Synthesizers
I hope this is the correct forum for this... I rarely see much discussion of Madrona Labs products Kaivo and Aalto. They are about as innovative, fun, educational, and flexible as anything I have tried. Admittedly, they tend toward the technical and experimental as opposed to musical (but you can ...

Re: Subwoofer recommendations (sealed box) for small space ?!
I am happy with my entry-level SVS brand subs - ported for the home theater and sealed for the music room - but I can't say I prefer one to the other. They both are excellent and reasonably priced.

Re: Windows 11 - reasons to be cheerful?
OK, I've been using 11 for a month or 2. It is fine on my i7 laptop. The appearance is quite slick and attractive. The only downside is having to learn the new look and feel, but I am no poweruser anyway. For my Ableton and VST and VCV Rack hacking around, it is fine. I have noticed no change in ...

Another Side of Bob Dylan -
Wait, now, you don't have to be a good singer or player to be a musician after all, you just need to be able to write brilliant lyrics. I can do that (ouch).

Re: Trouble with crackling / popping in Cubase Artist 9
I don't know if this will work with the UMC 22 - try downloading the latest couple of USB drivers for the UMC series (202 and up) for your OS from the Behringer website. I have had pretty good luck with those with my UMC204HD, but I had to try more than one of the several out there. It is a freebie ...

Re: Turning points in your guitar playing...?
There have been a lot - but I will mention 2 books that have both taken my playing up levels - Mark Hanson -Solo Guitar Playing (fingerstyle acoustic steel string) Barret Tagliarino - Chord-Tone Soloing (any kind of soloing) Got thru both all the way (took some time) and definitely worth it! Have ...

Re: Please Recomend good headphones for mixing.
Shure SRH1840. As smooth and detailed as Senn and AKG, more extended bass, slightly less comfortable (tighter means lower bass?) but still fine. Also Sonarworks sells good EQ software based on measurements of different models and will create custom EQ if you send in your phones. But with the SRH1840 ...

Re: Ever use a Spider Capo?
For those who understand it and the way your playing must change to use it, it must be an interesting thing to experiment with. But the marketing is deceptive in that it implies that you can use it to switch to alternate tunings more easily and quickly. It doesn't say that the left hand playing is ...

Re: Which vintage speakers for mastering
Most inexpensive powered home studio monitors will be more accurate than hi-fi speakers. I won't make recommendations, but relate my own subjective experience... I had a couple of $300 pair Mackie monitors in my home studio and a pair of $1500 B&W Matrix 805s in the living room. Just for yucks, I ...

Re: Quick mp3 question
I would like to see double blind listening test results that show that mp3 at 256 or more bitrate is distinguishable from the unencoded musical source. As far as I know, there is none. There was a lot of careful listening done during development of the codecs. It was not just development based on ...

Re: I've failed at becoming a commercial musician...
You have "failure as a commercial musician" in common with nearly every musician out there. It is a great and rewarding hobby, though, and a fun social activity, and an opportunity ...

Re: How to record from mixer to computer
Hi, sorry if this is redundant, I have not read all the answers. I assume your mixer has an auxiliary bus (alt 3-4). You need a simple and cheap USB audio interface as well. Plug the mixer alt 3-4 output into a pair of inputs in the interface. Plug the interface output into a pair of inputs on the ...

Re: DIY monitor kits - yay, nay, very nay, experiences?
I had LS35As (Rogers) for quite a while in the 70s. At that time, they were the best small speakers I was aware of, and I loved them. They do not compare to modern powered small monitors in terms of dynamics, spectral accuracy, dispersion control, bass response and require an amp.

Re: Equator D5
I had these and must say the midrange is outstanding. However, the bass was not very good and the dynamic range was only fair, as was the imaging. Given the hype, I had hoped for more. I found some used Mackie HRs for only slightly more money that are more accurate and will play louder and deeper.

Re: Logidy UMI3 MIDI over USB Foot Controller

Re: Near field monitors - Which way to go.
My 2 cents (which is what you are asking for :) ) Go with self-powered monitors. I have had good luck with Mackie and Genelec. Undoubtedly many others are also excellent. Stay away from hi-fi speakers for monitoring. For example, I had Matrix 805s for years (around 1500 bucks), with a powerful amp ...
