Re: Low Cost Drum Room Mics

The OM1s will work as room mics too, but I suggest using the OM1s as the overheads (depending on the height of the ceiling) and the SE8s as the rooms, pointing away. Just my 2c. I do like the idea of him having a pair of Omni mics and exploring where they could be useful, I’m not sure the college h...

Re: Low Cost Drum Room Mics

I suppose to a degree this about giving him sufficient equipment to practice / experiment so he can form his own opinions and build up his own recording experience before embarking on recording his coursework which will form part of his final grade. So in that sense I would rather spend some money o...

Re: Low Cost Drum Room Mics

The only audio I record via mics are vocals. So I have a few mics that I use for that purpose: a Tlm 103 and a shure SM7b but no matching pairs of mics outside of the SE8s that he intends to use for his overheads

Low Cost Drum Room Mics

My son is currently studying music tech A level at college. As part of the course he's required to record a drum kit. There's various bits of kit at school but he also wants to practice at home He's a drummer so we have the drums. We've got access to a SE V Pack mic set for the kit itself but could ...

Re: SSL Meter Plugin Calibration to 0VU

I seem to recall that there were some postings about this by SSL in the Facebook group UF1/UF8/UC1/360 Users Group. The upshot was as you say use -22dBFs with the +4dBu setting. I can’t recall the details of the explanation but it’s probably still in there if you wish to search. The postings were fr...

EVO 16 as an ADAT?

My son is doing a Music Technology A level. He's also a drummer and part of the course is to multi mic and record a drum kit My main interfaces are a Motu 828es and 16A linked together with an ethernet cable, I record mainly synths and vocals so have been able to get by on the two Mic Pres that I ha...

Re: Expressive Osmose

Mine finally arrived today after a last minute hold up in Paris that prevented delivery before the weekend. Initial thoughts are similar. I like the keyboard, the onboard presets though did little to wow me. I've also got a Rise 49 (version 1) which whilst I've always liked it I've always found it f...

I'm just finishing up a project with a friend of a friend - similar in nature. I've been given their demos and then I flesh them out / mix them as I see fit - submit back to the artist for comment and alterations. We both work full time and have families and it has taken of and on 14 months to get 8...

Re: Monitor upgrade from Adam A7X

i have to say that if I was buying now i'd probably be looking at the KH150/KH750 combo. After more pondering that's the conclusion I've come to. I do use Sonarworks and having spent some time moving my speakers around, measuring then moving them again I think some level of DSP processing is needed...

Re: Monitor upgrade from Adam A7X

To me, that implies something about liking (or more) the sound they produce. IMO it's accuracy that's paramount with any decent monitor, not whether/not they produce a pleasing sound. My interest in the KH310s really stemmed from seeing them described on various forums as boring but then noticing t...

Monitor upgrade from Adam A7X

My project studio measure approx 3m x 5.5m. It has some amount of room treatment on all walls and the ceiling from GIK. I’m currently using Adam A7Xs for my monitors which I’ve always liked but never loved I’ve got a budget of up to 3.5k to change my monitors. I’d initially been drawn to HEDD Type 2...

Re: Acoustic Treatment - what should I be aiming for

I think the thing to remember is that unless you're in a purpose-designed studio then it will always be a compromise. Don't lose time (and potentially money) chasing a theoretical flatline that's never really achievable. I think that in a nutshell is where I'm trying (or hoping I'm already at). to ...

Re: Acoustic Treatment - what should I be aiming for

I’m pleased with how the room sounds, it’s my preferred place to listen to music and after decades of largely headphone use it’s weaned me off those. I’ve toyed with moving the speakers up, and will do further experimentation. However it’s a bit like whack a mole. I slightly improve one area at the ...

Re: Acoustic Treatment - what should I be aiming for

I’ve downloaded REW and intend to start getting to grips with it soon. At the start of this process I didn’t know that desk reflections were a thing, now...

Re: SSL UF8 Controller is a winner

With using USB C instead of midi, the fine tuning on the faders is much improved over older midi controllers. It’s still using midi pitchbend messages, the resolution of the faders isn’t really any better than any other mackie controller. The faders themselves may move smoother and be less noisy th...

Re: Bye bye Roli

Love my Seaboard. Even as a bare bones device the Lumis are pretty crap as a keyboard, feel poorly made and flex as you play, very difficult to control velocity, expensive. No pitch bend or mod wheel. The light show is a bit of fun. Fully agree, the Rise is a nice controller, though I’d have prefer...

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to mixing When it comes to EQ I can get the point of cutting and boosting to allow sounds to co-exist together for clarity purposes One thing that confuses me is where I see Youtube videos where people sweep an eq with a very narrow band.
