It’s like little milliseconds of like a slight drop in db and it’s really audible to me. I can get an example up online but don’t want to post here publically

Tape to digital transfers
Hi all,
I’m going from 1/4 inch tape to digital to prep for mastering.
I’ve got some glitchy tape in parts and I’m freaking out. I’m wondering if it can be mended in mastering or not?
Thanks

Re: Mastering from tape to digital rig question
The signal chain would make sense if the A80 was a multitrack machine. Then mixed down to a B67. If the A77 is a standard high speed version then it should work fine with a pair of unbalanced phono to TS jack cables. This will give you the most accurate version of the sound on tape. Adding the Aval...

Re: Mastering from tape to digital rig question
So the revox is in perfect working order. And I have tested all the tapes. I recorded the mixes onto the 1/4 through a studer b67 from a studer a80. Everything was calibrated and I did check all of the tapes/ cleaned them in between mixes etc. I was going to go from the revox as a sound source to th...

Re: Mastering from tape to digital rig question
Yes, not surprised as they were more compact and much lighter than the Studer equivalents. I believe their much greater portability and general audio quality made them popular for location live to stereo concert recordings on 10.5" reels. Alfred Brendel used an A77 to listen back to his practi...

Mastering from tape to digital rig question
I’m trying to hook up a revox A77 1/4 inch and get it into my pro tools via an Avalon 96k interface. I’m wondering what leads I need with minimal interference? Stupid question I know. The Avalon only takes XLR input I think. Ordered it but it hasn’t come yet so Need to confirm. Sent from my iPhone u...

Re: Best Mastering Software For Ease of Use
Both Izotope and Wavelab are very good. I use the standard version of Izotope and I also have the Elements version of Wavelab. If you’re not planning to produce CDs, you don’t generally need to put metadata into the digital files and you can avoid the complexity of DDP authoring. For streaming serv...

I’m never shocked by how misogynistic this community is. Especially those who usually have nothing to be fly about. I don’t have to explain my education, nor my personal vocations to anybody. Especially on a forum whereby the fact of the matter is that my fellow ‘peers’ on this thread most probably ...

Re: Converting 1/4 inch tape to digital for mastering help needed please
I was just thinking once in pro tools it’ll become crackly and horrid as digital is. I'm afraid that's absolute nonsense. Assuming you are using a decent digital interface (and it's hard to find a truly 'bad' one these days, even at budget prices) - and assuming you know what you are doing to make ...

Re: How long do speakers last, and are modern ones better ?
My main monitors are a pair of passive dual concentric front-ported Tannoy DMT 10s that are now 25 years old, in excellent condition, light home use only. So I wonder how long could I expect them to last, and if there was a failure, would I be able to get a repair for something so old ? And are mod...

Re: Is 16bit a high enough resolution?
Thanks, does that not just add excess noise tho I’m wondering? Is it possible to create a new session in PT and then add in my master track, which I’ve bounced at 16/44.1 and 16 dither/ 44.1 on my mastering machine, and renounce in 24bit then or Is that going to affect my mix and the way it sounds b...

Re: Is 16bit a high enough resolution?
Okay so a level can come back and say that the quality isn’t high enough? I have used 16 bit dither and 16 bit on my pro tools bounce. I’m kind of Stuffed cuz I didn’t save my masters in a session. Only in the bounce, as I did several Master versions of each track and didn’t want to have to recreate...

Is 16bit a high enough resolution?
Hey I have mastered some music in PT through a. Tc finalizer. I did all of my masters as a bounce to disk in 16bit quality. Is my resolution high enough or does it absolutely HAVE to be in 24 bit? I’m worried because I spent a while doing it as I’m going to send this stuff out to labels and publishe...

Re: CD recorder giving me a headache. Is there another way to burn my master?
So I did it as a bounce from PT. So it’s a wav file. Can you do it from that way somehow?
