Re: Latency
Hi, CuriousMike! Could you please elaborate a little, and give some examples? When you say there are interfaces advertising 40ms of latency I can’t really put my finger on wich might those be. Someone more knowledgeable than me might chime in and explain the inner twiddlings, but maybe you’re com ...

Re: delta 1010 windows 10
Thanks, that replicates my own experience with the bigger brother, the 1010. Rock solid, very low latency, just doing its thing.
I’m set on replacing it, when time comes, with a RME Aio Pro. In the meantime, has anyone got one Delta working in windows 11?

Re: 'Normal' VST Instruments
One thing to bear in mind is the technology behind the instrument, as is it sample-based or synth-based. I’ve learned that can limit workflow to some extent, point in case being when used on a sub-par computer - namely laptops in live rigs, or low on ram. Sample based instruments, and I do have a l ...

Re: Waves go subscription only!
This was expected, it was just a matter of time - in reality the only surprise in the industry was the turn Steinberg took, wich was really fine by me. There’s something about companies hooking you up perpetually, forcing 1) internet connections active for software to work, when some machines would r ...

Re: delta 1010 windows 10
Just to let you know the last system I choose to run a Delta is with a i7 8700k, AsRock z370 mobo with a pci slot, and the thing runs smoothly as a kitten. When time comes to upgrade the whole thing I will finally let the delta go, very probably for a RME Aio Pro. PCI (or PCIe now) is just a very ...

Re: Which Valve Mic?
To the OP: I’ve had a wonderful surprise with an underdog, the SE 2200T. It’s by no means a recent mic, but for vocals has a very warm body combined with airy top end, without any hint of harshness or grain. And although it will suit some voices better than others I find it remarkably flexible to cat ...

Re: Small diaphragm condenser: AKG p170 vs Shure sm81?
I’ve been using exactly the AT4040 behind the bridge paired with a Lewitt lct 140, in flat position, aimed at the 12th fret. The resulting sound is really good, and can take, if needed, a fair amount of eq and processing, wich is not to be dismissed.

Re: Recommendations for Full Weighted Keyboard/ Stage Piano Please.
You really have to try for yourself. If you like the Nord solution, remember the Nord Pianos are way cheaper than the Stage counterparts, and the keybed is even better. For one I never liked Roland keybeds, but you might find them terrific. I liked the Korg Grandstage, not great but good, but the ...

Re: Suggestions for Software Piano instruments
Amazing as it is, 4Font is 64 bit! I’m happily using it in Nuendo ever since Steinberg made the switch to 64-bit only (tried J-Bridge with a couple of vsts and vstis but decided it wasn’t worth the instability). Yeah, Nord is pricey, and to be honest I find their products, albeit really good, a tad o ...

Re: Best quality small keyboard controller?
I had the Novation Impulse 49 for a few months, to use live controlling the Blofeld desktop, and never quite bonded with it - clunky keybed, strangely implemented after touch (well, it was very nice to have it, but it appeared as you had to press “a button” for it to activate, like a switch beneath t ...

Re: Suggestions for Software Piano instruments
I’m a classically trained pianist, doing mostly modern jazz/classical original pieces. And although there’s really no substitute for a real grand - it’s not just the sound but that inexplicable connection between keyboard feel and response, and the infinite sound timbres being generated - I have come ...

Re: Must watch - Bob Clearmountain mixing 'Born In The USA'
Ditto, in my case it was "The River" - both the album and the actual song - a real punch in the stomach on my teen belly when I discovered it - I'm 48 now, I must have been like 16, 17... The pianos by Roy Bitten also left a lasting impression, namely in "Point Blank".

Re: Must watch - Bob Clearmountain mixing 'Born In The USA'
"These guys mix themselves". That is utterly humble coming from such an expert, but it really puts the spot on the importance of great performances - and I'm not just talking about pristine and virtuosistic interpretations (that "primal scrub on Bruce's guitar being quite the opposite :) ) - but to ...

Re: What hardware is it needed to use lots of VSTi's without latency?
Even so, if you can experience “latency” while listening to your project I seriously doubt that it’s actually latency we’re talking about. Latency is not an issue if not playing or recording anything - and that’s how you are able to up your buffer while mixing, and everything stays in sync. I believe ...

Re: What hardware is it needed to use lots of VSTi's without latency?
The OP refers to Kontakt tracks lagging behind when in play mode. That could also point to delay compensation (or something similar, as this is its Nuendo name) isn’t active? And so tracks with high plug-in count or heavy ones - compressors and limiters always introduce more latency than others in m ...

Re: What hardware is it needed to use lots of VSTi's without latency?
Another thought: if you have issues while PLAYING, those aren’t latency related, are they? You must have some kind of Midi timing rate offset… Are you using Time Machine within Kontakt? Are those tracks fully sample-based, or are they rhythmic loops wich are being stretched inside Kontakt?

Re: What hardware is it needed to use lots of VSTi's without latency?
Sorry, you already stated your using Studio One, which I know nothing about. Re: What hardware is it needed to use lots of VSTi's without latency?
I also use an i7 8700k (although OC’d to permanent all-core 4.7GHz), only 16Gb of RAM, everything on ssds, an ancient PCI interface - Delta 1010 - and I can manage a RTL of about 6 ms with a 64 buffer (the lower it goes in the Delta). I have never ever, even with the original PC in which I started u ...

Re: Cubase 12 activation and elicenser - Steinberg No use at all
Since MainStage let me down twice (two different issues), I got talking to our guitarist who's a beta tester and does some YT vids/streams for Steinberg (Nuendo and Cubase)… He suggested I try their new VST Live program. So, just for balance - as I was taken aback how easy it was! Was working in l ...

Re: Using a microphone preamp at Mixdown
I've only briefly used a similar preamp to what you have been using, in a similar interface, and I believe the incremental benefits would be not much more than zero, to be honest. That is a perfectly useable preamp, with clean gain (haven't tried with ribbons so couldn't comment on high gain noise ...
