Re: Tascam Model 16
Evening chaps n chapettes. Revisiting this thread to confirm that I'm going for a brand new laptop. As always it's appreciated hugely all the posts and advice given. So I have a quote for a custom laptop from PCSpecialist.co.uk...here are screenshots of the spec. One last push if you please, to ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
I think this is all depending on how much portability you need. It is ironic that to make an ITB setup mimmick an OTB hdd recorder, you end up with more boxes, pc, monitor, mouse, keyboard, interface and possibly a controller. The monitor+mouse+keyboard situation could be alleviated by using a ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
Thanks for the suggestions guys, always appreciative for the help  Looking like a competent pc/mini pc will need to be my first priority, it's hard to avoid on a low budget un all honesty. After that it will need to be a combination of my trackpad and possibly an akai mpd232 or something ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
Ive got a Zoom R8 for a scratch pad [10s startup], I like the idea of somthing bigger but Ive never found anything suitable. Can the Model xx or Livetracks swap track locations / exchange tracks ? Not just a case of the hassle of unplugging and replugging inputs but some inputs are function ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
I think you might just love the flexibility a computer affords. Set it up as a fast-booting recorder, but then it can also become a myriad of other audio and non-audio related things should you want it to. It can also load plugins. Hurrah! The FaderPort is nice (especially with StudioOne!) :) You ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
@nathan....please, no more spanners. I have accepted that it was a flight of fancy...I'll end up sacking it altogether if this keeps up  Mike...I previously owned an R16 but found it too fiddly for mixing. I did try to use it as a controller but the laptop issue made thar redundant. The R20 ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
Man, way to shatter a guy's dreams  But glad I posted this, I feel like the site is personally looking out for me...thanks for all the input guys. The idea is now binned, luckily before getting myself into debt purely for an eternal headache. Back to the drawing board we go! Maybe a wee mini pc ...

Re: Tascam Model 16
The SP404 only has stereo outputs* so you can't record from it to more than two tracks simultaneously. FWIW I took a slightly different route after spending 10 years recording to hardware recorders (Akai DR8/16 and Mackie SDR24) and now use a Beringher X32 Compact and record to Reaper on an ageing ...

Tascam Model 16
Hi all, first post on here in a while. Hope this finds you all well. I'm looking to get back into recording after a spell of focusing on other things (work mainly), and have my sights set on an OTB setup. Really like the look of the Tascam Model 16 and am strongly considering going for it. I know ...

Re: Routing via Outboard
Yeah it's quite a strange one, not something I've came across before. Was half expecting to be advised to throw money at it with an expensive plug in purchase, so glad to hear it's possible to tackle it with basic plugs. I'm short on experience with dynamic eq and multi band compressors...is there ...

Re: Routing via Outboard
While I'm here...I have recorded a guitar part and then routed it through my channel strip in the way spoken about in this thread. I am happy with how it sounds although I'm hearing a high pitched ringing sound on it somewhere....assuming it's maybe been pumped too hard through the compressor or ...

Re: Routing via Outboard
Just a wee follow up to this, I've spent the last couple of days exploring this issue again and I think I've cracked it now. Basically the id mixer software has to be open in order for the ping detect to go through. That was the thing that was holding me back. My only issue now is latency but I'll ...

Re: An Album that altered our Musical direction
Enjoyable read here chaps (and chapettes?). Some opinions that resonate and some that are way above my scope of reasoning. Great stuff. I've loads of albums that I love but the one that has impacted me more than any other is The Stone Roses' debut. Came across it at a house party when I was 16 (a ...

Re: A good point, well made
My live gig experience is slightly different to the scenario discussed here, but it does fall under a similar circumstance. I play just me and an acoustic and have never bothered about what equipment I use. Plug straight in to the desk, adjust the eq, reverb and levels to suit and away I go. The ...

Re: Good Reading Suggestions
My first issue is the requirement of a good knowledge of complex numbers. After an hour or so on YouTube I've come to realise that I must not have been in that day at school 20-odd years ago  If you've got some spare time you could learn complex numbers and how they apply to waves. If you ...

Re: Examples of Electronic "rock" music.
Check out the Primal Scream albums XTRMNTR and Evil Heat. The former is one of my all time favourites, the latter hits higher heights but has a few not so great.
Special mentions for Autobahn 66, Miss Lucifer and Accelerator.

Re: Routing via Outboard
Gave this another whirl tonight but still not getting great results. At this point I'm considering what benefits I'd even get by seeing it through. The Presonus Studio Channel was bought mainly for tracking and to save on the processing power of my very basic laptop. However, learning about the ...

Re: Routing via Outboard
Cheers guys, still no joy. There must be something daft I'm missing I'll try explain exactly where I'm at. I'm running a mono jack from output 3 of the Audient to the jack input of the outboard. Then mono jack from the output of the outboard going into input 1 of the Audient. That's pretty ...

Routing via Outboard
Hi all, another wee request from me. Hope everyone is content and productive.
