Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

yeah downloaded the driver but with no actual software both Teams and Zoom still didn't recognise the piano as an input. I had a cheapo 3.5 - 3.5 cable in the office and have had it all working through OBS which is good. Sounds ok even with that, will certainly hope for better with stereo cabling ...

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

ok, so piano is here and i've had a play. I think I need something other than the USB from RD88 to PC. I'm not using a mac, so can't use mainstage which would appear from that video to do the job. At the moment, even with the USB connected, OBS doesn't recognise the piano as an audio input - so my ...

stand or workstation?

Hi all, so, i've got my RD88 :bouncy: :bouncy: the stand it came with isn't for me, my legs are too big for an x frame so it needs to go. I've seen (as recommended on here) the offerings of K&M and I like the 18953 bench. I'm close to ordering it but wonder if I'm better off with a studio desk or ...

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

Does sound like I need a cable from the speaker slot/headphone slot/line out of pc to go into the piano though, that sounds logical to me. If the piano allows it

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

Apparently the piano I’m going to get has a built in audio interface - Roland rd88 so might be ok

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

Ok, so. When I did this last time, I had speakers on my piano, and essentially I could do everything merely using my webcam. I added a mic to give clarity to the sound I wore headphones (connected to the pc) to hear my teacher and his piano - although the same could have been done with pc speakers ...

Piano stand with Laptop shelf?

Hi, anyone able to recommend a stand for a Roland RD88 that has a laptop shelf - or ability to add one.

The piano is quite slim so i'm trying to avoid a massive stand (like the KS-g8)

I'm not a z frame fan really so trying to ensure legs have space underneath

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

.... I'd assumed the headphones would be going to the AI (or if indeed the RD88 can be the AI itself then the headphones to that as the mic would be in there anyway...ahhhhh....but then I can't hear the other person can I....point taken... yes of course :headbang: :headbang: The headphones should ...

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

I need to be able to hear myself play, and hear the teacher speak/play back.

That's what it comes down to really. As long as I can hear him and he can hear me yet the room itself is silent then perfect.

If that needs an AI so be it, if not that's fine too

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

I did look at whether the RD88 was its own audio interface but I couldn't see anything to that effect on the site I was looking at - but I saw in the other thread that someone who owns it has confirmed that's the case. And if you're happy using OBS, then yes, webcam mic to OBS, RD88 to computer via ...

Re: Which stage style piano?

it's not so much that there's an issue with the cost, just a case of if there's al older model or something else worth looking at which would offer a saving then i'd be daft to not consider it. I like the PHA on a roland, as I said, I've had 3 before so I know i'll get on with the feel. I've had an ...

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

Usually, you can only select one audio source unless you're using something like OBS or Voicemeeter (both are free) virtual mixers that will mix several sources into Zoom or whatever you're using. Well, that's true for PC, don't know about Mac? Anyhow, it will be simplest to just have one source. I ...

Re: Cabling and Equipment Advice

For the job in question there are plenty of mics I'd choose before an SM58 personally. An AKG D5 is more than good enough and half the price. But I do agree with you about either a lavalier or possibly a headset mic. I'm not sure if there are headsets that deliver a proper balanced output to an XLR ...

Cabling and Equipment Advice

Hi all, yet more advice required please. As per my other posts i'm setting up my piano for solo practice and live tuition online (taking lessons) with that in mind, I need to have the piano transmit sound of course, and I need to be able to speak and be heard. Ideally I don't want sound in the space ...

Re: Which stage style piano?

Thanks for that. I’ve had Roland’s before and love the feel of it and as you said - that’s half the battle! I know some people aware by Casio but I always think they feel like a keyboard rather than piano. So part of the Roland thought process is it’s a bit of devil I know. I’ve had acoustic pianos t ...

Which stage style piano?

Hi all after some advice if possible. I’m hoping to start playing piano again. It’ll be based in my office and I have neighbours who I’m sure won’t enjoy me playing scales lol. So it’ll be played mostly through headphones whilst practicing. But I’ll also be having online lessons, which I intend to pu ...

Re: Silent Live performance over skype/teams/zoom

thanks for the reply, all good to know certainly! I can't see myself live streaming any time soon, so the setup would purely be for practice and lessons. In fact, for practice I will purely plug the headphones directly into the piano and leave the interface alone completely. you're right in your ...

haha I'll keep that in mind!

I think i'm settled on the Roland RD 88 Piano, I wonder if the Presonus AudioBox iTwo Studio bundle would be a good fit? seems ideal to my eyes, but again, this is a bit new to me.

Re: Silent Live performance over skype/teams/zoom

ok cool, will look into all of that certainly. at the moment I don't have anything at all, no piano, no AI nothing. Mainly because I wanted to buy correctly, last time around it was more about playing piano normally so none of this really mattered to me as my webcam was up to the task there, but now ...
