Re: Acoustic trauma

Thanks for your replies guys! I think I'll start wearing earplugs when people set up from now on.

Re: Acoustic trauma

And as you play rock music with amplifiers, any defence lawyer will argue that it’s most likely self-inflicted over time. I don't play rock music with amplifiers, I don't even have one. Aside from the good advice above ask yourself has he got any money? There's no point in suing him if he hasn't. ...

Acoustic trauma

We went to a first rehearsal with a band (all members were musicians that I knew previously) to play my original music and the spot to rehearse was a drummer's spot that he suggested, that turned out to be shitty (red flag), not good sounding equipment and just one speaker (typical in terms of size ...

Re: Pitch shifter plugin

Never mind, I asked him and he said that it's just an envelope filter. I guess the fact that the range was so big was misleading.

Re: Pitch shifter plugin

Wonks wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2024 11:16 am I don’t hear any pitch drop as the volume lowers in that video.

He could be using a louder volume to trigger a higher pitch shift. A parallel FX path in the HX stomp with another pitch shifter in and noise gate which only opens on the louder playing.

Listen closely – at the end of every note.

Pitch shifter plugin

Hi, looking for a pitch shifting plugin that reacts to volume of a signal. Here's a reference of what I wanna achieve — when the volume drops after a threshold, the pitch goes down. https://vk.com/video637201_456239376?access_key=0dc06a24ac1e996c3f The guy used Line 6 HX Stomp. Re: Limiting for Social Media

Perhaps its a data limit when you uploaded it? i.e. while on a bandwidth limited network, a setting that was turned on for data compression within Instagram? Just checked in the settings, yeah, there is a setting "upload in the highest quality" which was turned off, so most likely that affected it.

Re: Limiting for Social Media

That distortion doesn't sound like a result of limiting to me. The guitar sounds fairly clean and the problem seems to be more with the backing track. No, the backing track is perfectly fine. Here's the clip which is not uploaded: https://disk.yandex.ru/i/L0iqkWfpt8CDSg Also, just noticed that it ...

Limiting for Social Media

Hi guys, what's your limiting options when you export audio for reels, shorts and tiktoks? I always limit to -0.3 dBfs, but I noticed heavy distortion in one of my reels: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVYb0bAM5YE/ So after exporting audio I import it to a video editor (Final Cut) and don't limit it ...

Rubber bridge sound

Hey peoples! Need to modify a guitar to make it sound like it has a rubber bridge for a recording, but it has to be not a permanent modification. I've seen the Babolat thing for killing vibrations of a tennis racket put on the guitar strings, not a fan of this sound, rubber bridge is better: https ...

Make strings last longer

Hi, how can I make my guitar strings last longer? I have Ernie Ball Paradigm which already last longer than regular ones, due to coating, but can that still be improved? For example wearing gloves during playing or/and apply a degreasing liquid on the strings after playing?

UAD DSP in 2023?

Hi, does it make sense to buy DSP accelerators in 2023? It’s very expensive and you would need a lot to comfortably run plugins. Although UAD have unique plugins and for some I can’t think of a replacement. I’m not a mixing engineer, but a producer, so I’m mostly interested in creative and spacial pl ...

Re: Taming resonances

I saw this video recently, where a dude uses eq in a linear phase and notches to reduce the resonances. So how does it combine when a guy has 3 grammies, but causes pre-ringing by doing that (linear phase + narrow qs)?

Yeah, when I record in a treated room, there’s no such problem, but when record at home for social media, it’s needed to tame the resonances.

Hi, today's topic for discussion is resonances😊. How do you tame them? My thoughts regarding vocal for example. Hi, just wanna make sure where are the reverb and tremolo in the circuit of the amp, let's say Deluxe Reverb? Is it before the amp or in between the amp and cab? And is it generally the same way for all amps or does it differ?

Limit your EQ plug choices to say three at a time and get to know them. Don’t keep swapping between 50 EQ plugs in an effort to find the ‘magic’ one for the track. If you find you rarely use one of the three EQs, then swap it out for another and see if that gets used more.

Thank you!

Re: How to hear the compression

You need to go back and re-read articles on how compression works. For a start, we are dealing with an attack between 0.02ms and 0.8ms, so even at its slowest attack, an 1176 will severely limit even fast initial transients. The compression kicks in after the signal exceeds the threshold. The 1176 ...
