Re: Have you ever maxed out your M1 or M2?
Interested in this topic. I am running an M1 MacBook Air with 16gb and 1TB drive. Just did a check with Activity Monitor with a project I'm working on which has 76 tracks of mostly live audio, 7-8 virtual instruments, but not a huge amount of plugins yet. I record 4 tracks of audio per pass ...

Re: Apple Silicon compatible Midi Interface
Hmmm, thinking you could be right. As my Mac is an M1 MacBook Air, it only has 2 USB C ports. I therefore need a dock which runs power through, and which also connects to my monitor and interface, and a separate USB A Hub for the MidiSport, as well as to connect my pedals. I think I need to do some ...

Re: Apple Silicon compatible Midi Interface
My MidiSport isn't working brilliantly, strange.
Might be my hub/dock, who knows.

Apple Silicon compatible Midi Interface
I've been running Logic Pro X on an M1 MacBook Air with 16gb of memory for 2-3 years now. Everything has worked brilliantly, but I have never used much Midi. I use soft instruments, and connect my keyboard through USB, all works fine. I have a MidiSport Uno which I've been using just to connect my ...

Re: New Macbook- Air or Pro
I bought an M1 Air about a year ago, went for a refurbished model with 16gb and 1 TB SSD at £1400.
It’s been phenomenal - not skipped a beat with some big Logic projects, and totally silent. I would say go for the Air.

Re: New Macs
M1 Pro and M1 Max both look like quite something. New MacBook Pros seem pretty cool, and a lot of the rumours, such as the return of MagSafe, were fulfilled.
I don't think many people were expecting both the M1 Pro and M1 Max, though...

Re: Apple Event Monday 18th Oct 6pm UK time
The new MacBook Pros do look very very cool. But after purchasing a refurbished M1 MacBook Air last week I’m kind of relieved they are leaving that model untouched. Also quite pleased that to get the same memory/SSD it will still cost £700 more than I paid. And the M1 seems so incredibly fast. It’s l ...

Re: Apple Event Monday 18th Oct 6pm UK time
Literally had the Apple website open ready to purchase an M1 MacBook Air with 16GB memory and a 1TB SSD when I read your thread.
Now I’m wondering if I should just wait. Doubt I’ll be able to afford an upgraded MacBook Pro though…
Hmmm.

Re: Spec for Garageband
Just a quick question for Mac experts -
What’s the difference between the M1 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro?
From looking at the website, the M1 MBP has a Touch Bar, and perhaps 2 hours more of battery life.
It seems the Air is a much better buy.
Any thoughts/info on this? Thanks!

Re: New Macs
Just checking back to see if anyone is actually using a new iMac for music production yet. I'm a bit financially challenged, but updating my 2013 21.5 iMac is becoming a bit critical now. I'm labouring over refurnished vs new, and a new iMac vs an M1 MacBook Air. I probably won't be able to afford ...
Re: mac mini confusion
So, with the consensus that hubs/docks are going to be needed for most Macs, anyone recommend a decent one?
I'd need USB C out, and a mix of USB C/Thunderbolt and at least one USB A port.

Re: New Macs
Anyone gone down the new M1 iMac route yet? Any comments? I've bought the 13" M1 Laptop. Seems to work fine. Ah, I'm wondering about the M1 MacAir. However, how are you doing with the lack of ports? I'd be interested to see what other people with an M1 laptop are doing in terms of hubs? I see ...

Re: M1 iMac Music Production
Subscribed. I'm ready for an upgrade to my 2013 iMac 21 inch, but am completely torn about what to go for. Apple have a 0% credit offer on Macs at the moment, so a new iMac seems like a good bet, rather than get a Mini and have to get screen, keyboard, etc. separately. I'd love to see if anyone else ...

Re: New M1 iMac shipping with 256GB storage as standard!!!
I agree, I think the lack of storage is poor on a desktop. However, interestingly, I have have been running a 2013 21 inch iMac with 1TB rotating disk, and over the years the disk has edged towards being full, significantly impacting performance. I gradually shifted items onto backup and secondary ...

Re: New Macs
Any class compliant audio device should work, maybe they plugged it in and it didn't though. You could always just buy one, try it out and if it doesn't work return it. Edit: just had a look on the web, looks like the interface will work fine but the software to control the mixer will not work. If ...
Re: New Macs
Hi - sorry to swing the focus of this thread around a little, but... IS there a thread anywhere that lists what is compatible with the M1 Mac/Big Sur yet? As I said earlier in the thread, I am just about ready to upgrade my 2013 iMac to a new M1 machine, probably a Mac Mini but just possibly a ...
Re: New Macs
Any more reports on how the new M1's are performing in the wild?
Re: New Macs
Hi - newbie on here, normally hang around The Gear Page :-/ Just about to upgrade my 2013 iMac 21.5 inch with 8gb ram, and my - ahem - Financial Advisor is asking me whether the M1 Mac Mini basic model will be OK. I record for fun, using GarageBand (but will upgrade to Logic when I get a capable Mac ...
