Re: Considering moving from PC to Mac. Low latency performance?
It's annoying having so few ports and not sure yet how I will hook everything up. When I had an Air I bought this one but it really depends on how many peripherals you need to connect. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087QZVQJX?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3 Thanks a lot and that should ...

Re: Ooops!
Anker make a lot of powered hubs and some come with multiple type A ports such as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Display-MacBook-Thinkpad-Laptops/dp/B0BQLLB61B/ If you scroll through the images, they usually give details on the features that each port supports. This will include the ...

Re: Considering moving from PC to Mac. Low latency performance?
Windows 10 was a faff when it first came out as it was getting a new version every six months and it seemingly wasn't an optional upgrade unless you were using the Pro version. I'm still using W10 but have lost so much faith in MS that even though my desktop supports W11, I have just bought a ...

Re: Does anyone use Teams?
For the less than once a week use we would make of it, £10+ per month (Zoom) is too much and the free 40 minutes would fly by and be very frustrating I would think. It's similar to what landline companies do where they offer free calls for up to an hour. This has been going on for decades and the ...

Re: Mic recommendation for recording Himalayan and Crystal bowls.
It's very good value for money and sounds sweet... but bear in mind that it is a miniature capsule electret mic so self-noise is relatively high at 18dBA (compared to 10dBA for the Sennheiser MKH8020). The mic is designed and equalised for near-field (close mic) applications and so that noise floor ...

Re: Mic recommendation for recording Himalayan and Crystal bowls.
And finally, the Line Audio OM1 performs well above its price point. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how low that price point of £135 inc VAT is, assuming that I have the right model: https://pinknoise-systems.co.uk/products/la-omni1 I will keep them in mind for a future project. Thanks. ...

Re: Worth a look - Just Ask The Axis: Jimi Hendrix unpicked - Milton Mermikides
Fripp did play with Vai/Satch on the G3 tour a while back though and despite his rather odd persona and stage demands (he was always right at the back in the dark - very strange), it wasn't too bad. He's not really a natural performer though, or at least he doesn't come across as such. Which makes ...

MacBook Air M2 – Clamshell mode okay with external monitor?
I recall reading that there were some limitations when using certain M series MacBooks with monitors, particularly with the Air models. So will the Air M2 (2022) work okay in clamshell mode when connected to an external monitor which has a resolution of 2560x1440 (60Hz)? I understand that you can ...

Re: Anyone else feel like Music algorithms are failing us?
It costs £33 a year if you pay annually or more if paying monthly. There's a 2 week free trial. I find new music mainly via the BBC Radio shows I listen to and also via YouTube. YT is particularly good for Concert footage. Lots of BBC TV concert recordings and live in the studio recordings too. Rock ...

Re: Best Amp under $600 Clean warm round tones, 10 watt?
The single coil is, I think, a P90 style wide coil pickup so sounds different to a Strat/Tele type single coil. The OP is correct in that it is definitely a single coil at the neck. A humbucker in split coil (or even parallel coil) mode sounds very different from a single coil due to the ...

Re: Best Amp under $600 Clean warm round tones, 10 watt?
The guitar has a single coil and a HB with a coil split, so not getting the references to needing a guitar with single coils!

Re: Drum sample libraries on an external SSD drive
Additional bonkers question here. SD cards are cheaper than an external drive and can be left in the in built reader all the time. I can get a Samsung EVO Plus card, 256gb for less than 25 quid and it seems the specs are good. Will this work for drum samples? Specifically: Melda’s MDrummer? Cards h ...

Re: Behringer price alert
Depends where the actual stock is as well. If it's already in the US, then no tariffs presumably. This is more about production warehouse levels and production line flexibility. I suspect Behringer is an efficiently run machine based on pricing. So I can't see any potential blip being long term if ...

Re: Behringer price alert
If Americans stop buying due to high prices, in the short term there may be a global over supply which could temporarily lead to lower prices in other markets!
It depends how regionalised the SKUs are.

resistorman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:47 am I'm wondering how different an ARM and X86 VST actually are, it's Windows after all?
x86 has SSE, AVX etc which are proprietary, so you will need to use the ARM equivalents.

Re: Best Sounding Real Time Varispeed Utility or Standalone
... Even for the lower level of one drive write per day, if you buy a 4TB drive and write 1TB per day, it will take twenty years to hit the endurance rating. If we take a fairly cheap 4TB Crucial P3 Plus it has an endurance (Total Bytes Written or TBW) of 800TB. The whole drive can be written over ...

Re: Best Sounding Real Time Varispeed Utility or Standalone
Yeah, I wondered about that, why do you think that chane? Because as I understand it SSDs are like flash drives in that once they write to a blank space the can't erase the data written there and rewrite to that exact same space again, like HDDs can do indefinitely. I don't think SSDs can't even ...

Did you try the solution I suggested above? In my Magix account, it is simple to deactivate and that frees up an activation. Re: w10 destop takes 5minutes to restart
Try this when you shutdown as regular shutdown is more of a hybrid hibernation.
Holding the Shift key while clicking "Shutdown" in Windows performs a full shutdown, bypassing the Fast Startup feature (which puts the computer into a hibernation state instead of a full shutdown).

I did do an image onto a spare HDD spinner but I don't have that connected now, one of the things I tried. I can do it again, can I put the boot file on a USB stick? I have DVD-R to hand but maybe not a CD. You can create a bootable USB stick. Boot from that, plug in the HDD and then point the ...

Re: I need some good orchestral strings
Thinking about Spitfire Audio, what do you recommend as a good starting point, for a full symphonic string section? There are so many variables that you need to state your requirements. If you don't need legatos, then they have the Originals series which are £29. Are you fussy about how wet the ...
