Re: Do I really need update Windows so much?

It's a good idea to keep it up to date as the updates invariably contain security patches to fix vulnerabilities. If your PC is regularly online then it would be unwise not to install the updates as over time you're increasing the risk of picking up malware or having your computer otherwise comprom...

Re: Cassette to cassette overdubbing — how did we do it?

My 488 ran at double speed and had dbx that I left switched off. Used with good quality cassettes, I thought it sounded as good as anything else I had access to at the time.

Re: Cassette to cassette overdubbing — how did we do it?

My Portastudio was the later 8-track version. I didn't think four was worth it.

This is what I meant by driver settings.

Are there any similar webcam driver settings in the CP?

Re: Cassette to cassette overdubbing — how did we do it?

We didn’t do it by using speakers by the way, in case that was a thought. I first did it with speakers, cheap little boom boxes, sounded terrible. I also vaguely remember a bookshelf system where I could push in both the "Tape" and "Aux" buttons at the same time, and if I could ...

Re: Live-streaming: Is this a Windows problem - or something else?

Re: Reaper: delay tails cut off in fx inserted into split media item

Another way (poor cat) would be to use a combination of the "channel mode" buttons in the item properties and the plugin pin connectors on the "delays" track. BTW, Drew & Elf, my version of the reverb template from that other thread is all on a single track, thanks to that pi...

Re: Layman here. Need advice on recording and locating intermittent noise

Locating sound - even approximately - from any sort of 'spaced' domestic recording is a very hit-and-miss affair; reflections etc etc etc. Yeah, I did wonder about that. There's obviously no kind of sound dampening in the house; just brick walls... If the sound is coming from outside the room, ever...

Re: Radial J48 more noise than Hi-Z Input?

The input impedance of a DI box or indeed an amplifier is not as critical as many people think. 220k, 500k or 2-3 meg will probably make less audible difference than changing the cable from 3 to 5 mtrs or a different brand. The whole response of the pickups inductance, any onboard pots and caps and...
