Re: Good resource for setting up a non Floyd Rose tremolo

Anyone? When I went through a similar exercise I remember that I had to go through a lot of on-line guides and YouTube videos before I had a good understanding of everything that was involved. I have never found a guide that was truly comprehensive. One thing that I would say is that when doing this ...

Re: Sheeran Looper + Volume matching

It would be good to understand how the manufacturer intended this looper to be used. Surely they tested it with a guitarist or two? :)

Re: Electric shocks from SM-58 connected to ADA8200???

I agree with Ajay. It is quite likely that one of the power strips has a safety ground continuity fault, which may be intermittent. Whatever the fault is, this is not something that can be "lived with", as an important safety feature may be neutralised. It needs to be sorted out quickly. This issue ...

Re: Electric shocks from SM-58 connected to ADA8200???

In case it might help, I tried the same experiment here using a cheap digital multimeter. I am seeing 0 volts on the AC voltage ranges (which can measure 0.1 volts) and a maximum of 0.1 millivolts (the smallest number that it can measure) on the DC voltage ranges. This is on the second power strip ...

Re: Electric shocks from SM-58 connected to ADA8200???

This should be investigated and fixed immediately, although not fatal "in most cases" it's very unpleasant and could be indicative of dangerous faults somewhere in your mains wiring. Or floating mains voltages, make sure your system is grounded. +1 to this! Also the basis for any installation, even ...

Re: Advice for first stereo recording of acoustic guitar with high quality microphones

Thank you for all the advice - I have now taken on board comments and worked out how to set up a stereo recording in Logic Pro. I would now like to work on the acoustics in my room and possibly look at getting some GIK sound treatment boards. I hope that you have made some simple test recordings to ...

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?

Definitely looking forward to a "Wonks guitar furtling" article in SOS though (assuming Hugh and Wonks can be persuaded). This would be of interest to many SOS readers including keyboard players like myself who of course have some guitars but are largely clueless about whether they are badly set up ...

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?

Thanks to Wonks for the very detailed reply and pictures. So it seems that IF (and we don't know yet) the saddle is touching the trem pivot post, there are several options to repair the problem. I'm not sure that I would tolerate the need for repairs on a rather expensive (and presumably new) guitar ...

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?

I cannot push a piece of paper between the saddle and the post and I strongly suspect the culprit is vibration passing from the post on to the saddle and screws assembly. But the intonation is good with the saddle where it is! This is more of a question than a statement, since I don't own this ...

Re: G-String Fuzz

One more thing to try if the above doesn't sort the problem. It's possible that there might be something loose that's vibrating in tune with the G string. Try playing it without an amplifier, and see if you can hear anything odd.

Re: Newbie with Computer Question

Some but not all desktops have quite noisy cooling fans. You can check for this by running the computer for 20 minutes or so while it's e.g. playing a Youtube video (to give it something to do) with the sound all of the way down and listening for the fans to kick in. This is only an issue if you are ...

Re: Headphones impedance RME digiface

Yeah, headphones and headphone amplifiers used to be pretty simple, at least for things like small mixers and later interfaces (the hi fi industry got very silly with things like 8 Ohm headphones) You built a small 'power amp' capable of say 5-8V rms and stuck a resistor on the output of between 33 ...

Re: How to charge iPad and transfer data via Apple Lightning camera adaptor?

Yes, that was my suspicion as well. But I couldn't (be bothered to) prove it.
The Apple branded device works well, but I'm not really in favour of the modern trend to move near-essential ports to external adaptors, with the associated inconvenience and risk of losing them.

I have the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, which I bought 3 years ago. I am guessing that they are still the same. It actually has a Lightning socket (not USB-C) in addition to a USB-A socket. This allows you to plug in your existing Lightning charger. I can confirm that this charges my (oldish ...
