Re: Extremely Post Production.
Have you got a good-quality CD player and an audio interface that has Line level inputs? Connect them up and give it a try! All recording programs sound the same, all CD burning programs sound the same (well, as long as you get the recording level right and avoid programs that add 'enhancements ...

Re: Term for chord that functions as a dominant to the dominant?
'V of V' is a perfectly 'official' name for it. Or you can call it a 'secondary dominant'. 'V of V' is a little more precise. A secondary dominant doesn't have to be the dominant OF THE DOMINANT. It can be the dominant of anything other than the tonic. Key of C. C, B7, E7, A7, D7, G7, C. Everything ...

Re: minor cosmetic issue
For what it's worth, it's noticeably fuzzier than the surrounding text even on this old 1366 x 768 screen. Not that it worries me much.

Re: What do I do with this in terms of chord changes and accompaniment?
You're hearing the snares on offbeats, 2 & 4? I'm hearing them pretty strongly on 1 & 3. Yep! If you can hear it that way it's a simple swung groove. I can't hear the snare as 1 and 3! :eh: There's a snare hit on the second note, after the 'little note'. You really hear that as a '2' or '4', not a ...

Re: What do I do with this in terms of chord changes and accompaniment?
You may have aligned that first note to a barline in your sequencer, but musically it's an upbeat. Had a listen. I have to agree 100%. Just listen to those obvious snare beats on 2 and 4. It's actually a very simple swung riff. You're hearing the snares on offbeats, 2 & 4? I'm hearing them pretty ...

It is, but it's just not accented at all.

Re: What do I do with this in terms of chord changes and accompaniment?
You're riffing on a G natural minor scale in a sort of folk dance feel. I don't think there's any point in looking for a more complicated chord structure. You could go to town on the drumming. You could add a middle section with a bit of variation, maybe move to a F root. Here's a (completely un ...

Re: Zoom H4n vs smartphone, guess which wins
2 is a better balance between violin and piano, but sounds like the mic was in a box! 1 is the higher quality recording. But it doesn't really matter. Because the violinist is going to listen to either of them and say 'God! Was I playing THAT much out of tune?' and refuse to let you submit either ...

Re: DI placement
What amp is it? But yes, it sounds as if the 'DI' is designed more as a feed to an additional amp/speaker than a DI to the board.
Sure, tap a DI box off the effects return. If the sound guy can't get a good signal he'll soon tell you.

Re: How to read Pitch of Staccato Notes
I am suprised. The way you talk I get the impression that you can hear a short note and can tell the pitch? Like this is an A3 -4 cents? Thats incredible to me. Re: How to read Pitch of Staccato Notes
I am not trained to hear if a note is in pitch or not. Well, with all respect, that's your main problem then! Knowing when something sounds right is perhaps the most vital prerequisite for doing anything in music production! But I'm sure you're being too hard on yourself. Listen to some of the ...

Re: Recording Pipe Organ
There is a lo-cut setting on your Zoom h4n, in the Input menu. I don't think it's turned on by default, but it's worth checking. The classic mic position for pipe organ is up high, in front of the pipes. This may not be practical, but at least try to get it up and out of any location that could be ...

Re: BBC R3 Carol competition 2023
Yes. Apart from the uninspiring lyric, they seem heavily biased against anything but the most amateur dilettante and the most superficial musical content. And if you do manage to slip a catchy melody past the rules, they'll 'arrange' it out of all recognition.

Re: Cassette tapes to add character
If you do decide to degrade your product through a domestic cassette machine, be sure to advertise clearly that you've done it, so that a certain generation can add nostalgia points. Otherwise everyone will just assume it's a crap recording.

OK. So your first requirement is a musical jot-pad. Maybe the voice recorder on your phone. Or there's always those 5 lines on a sheet of paper plus a pencil!

Re: Does the MIDI input on an AI have the same buffer size and latency as the audio input?
Audio needs to be digitised, which involves buffering and hence delay. But this isn't the figure we're generally interested in when speaking of 'audio latency'. Rather the overall time taken to digitise the input audio, crunch it through the DAW's audio engine, maybe adding some effects, then send ...
