Re: Lexicon MX400 - thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback everyone - much appreciated. And to Stu - thanks for the offer - alas (for my sins :-) ) - I'm an LPX user! I'm perpetually contemplating moving to Cubase but haven't taken the plunge yet!

Re: Lexicon MX400 - thoughts?

Just read the SOS review of it - rated very highly indeed. Still interested to hear from anyone who has used it, and whether there's a chance it's software will work in a current Mac (I expect not!).

Lexicon MX400 - thoughts?

Are there any Lexicon MX400 users out there? If so - how do you find it? for the first time I'm 'noticing' it - and it looks like a really great unit - classic Lexicon reverbs, SPDIF, dual channel, surround mode - and - incredibly good second hand prices. Is this perhaps a "hidden gem" in Lexicon's ...

Re: Does the Quad 520F hold up these says?

Firstly apologies for the typo - should have been "...these days". Thanks for not making me look foolish :-) !! Secondly, thanks a million for the very informative answers - and to Hugh for the expert guidance on wiring - if memory serves when I connected them up in the 90s I think this issue came ...

Does the Quad 520F hold up these says?

I have a pair of Dynaudio BM6's which I rarely use but actually I think are a very fine speaker indeed, and when I use them I power them via a Quad 520f. I'm thinking of using the BM6's more, and wonder if using the Quad 520f does them justice - whether it holds up these days and it not whether ...

Re: Any recommendations on books about "mixing"?

Ok this is embarrassing. I'm officially getting old! I looked (carefully) at my bookshelf - and - sitting there was: a copy of Mike Senior's "Mixing Secrets". Sittin' there - likely for 3-4 years - unread, unopened - and I'm only now remembering buying it! It's like I just found a fresh £30 note :-)

Mike Senior's book is clearly the winner here - thanks for pointing this out !!

Cheers!

Any recommendations on books about "mixing"?

Wondering if there are any recommendations on excellent books on "mixing"? I'm looking for one book - a bit like Bob Katz book on Mastering - that covers the subject comprehensively and that is widely respected.

Thank!
Kevin.

Re: Logic Pro X 10.5 is out!

And - a pity they are not supporting Ableton Push or Push 2 - though Novation must be delighted !! They may well add further support for other devices now the big release is out in future smaller updates. Re: Logic Pro X 10.5 is out!

I'm afraid to ask but here goes - is the MIDI bottle neck from the Environment into the Arrange Page sorted out - as in - do Arrange Page MIDI tracks recognise MIDI Interface, Ports and Devices? Really disappointed that it won't run in High Sierra. No change in that regard. I was expecting 10.5 to ...

SOS review of Korg ARP2600FS

I just read the SOS March edition review of the Korg ARP 2600 FS. All well and good - but - the reviewer has written the article seemingly blissfully ignorant of one critical piece of information - this instrument isn't available to purchase - and never will be! He's writing as if it's finally an ...

Re: Cubase question (connecting hardware synths)

I will Desmond. I know I've been very critical of LPX on this one point (and irritated the hell out of your good self on more than one occasion on it too) - but for this one aspect of things, I need something like Cubase. I'm just too hardware orientated of live with the Logic Sequencer Object ...

Re: Cubase question (connecting hardware synths)

Fantastic! If Cubase has such MIDI combining and splitting capabilities then it should be possible, and means avoiding having to do that on the interface itself. Sounds like you have this sorted for sure. Thanks so much for you insight here and offer to give pointers. It’s a while off before I’ll be ...

Re: Thunderbolt 2 goes the way of firewire

It's one of the four on the MBP. Who knows what it's called USB3 USBC Thundebolt 3 Whatever. They are Thunderbolt 3 ports, with a USB-C connector. Thunderbolt handles a bunch of formats over it, including USB, FW, DIsplayport, and Thunderbolt itself. It's both a good thing, and fairly confusing too ...

Cubase question (connecting hardware synths)

Hi - I wasn't sure where to post this as there isn't a DAW Forum, and since I'm a Mac music user, thought I'd post here. Re: Cost effective compressors / gates for 32 channels of a Mackie 32-8?

To Sam - I haven't heard of the "Berry" gates and a Google reveals nothing on them? A little Mr. de la Palisse here, but when Sam says "Berry" he means "Behringer" I think (do you, Sam? :)) Plenty results googling "behringer gate" :-) Doh! (thanks! )

Re: Cost effective compressors / gates for 32 channels of a Mackie 32-8?

Thanks for your feedback. Not to bore you with the details (but I'm going to :-) ) - but this room (being setup) has a lot of hardware gear over two 'synth setups' - over 30 synths and about 8 hardware effects. One of the two synth setup is already primed to use two cascaded O1V96s (still trying to ...

I still use a Mackie 32-8 mixer for coping with many hardware synthesizesrs and effects processors.
