Re: Keyboard amp vs powered speaker for better piano sound?

Without knowing what PA speakers you're using it's impossible to identify the likely problem.... but I do think it's more likely to be the specific speaker rather than the concept. I'd second the recommendation for a lightweight line+sub system like the Bose L1 which will give you good dispersion a...

Re: Keyboard amp vs powered speaker for better piano sound?

I am using a QSC CP 12.

It's great and reliable. Well made and easy to haul around. Seems well suited as a PA speaker for small rooms. I don't want to disrespect it for what it is.

Keyboard amp vs powered speaker for better piano sound?

I have been getting a lot of calls to play play piano. When I need an electric piano because the room has no piano, I bring my axe and use a powered PA speaker. The tone of the piano through this speaker has a honkiness in the midrange I can't tame, like it sticks out when a key is struck too hard, ...

Re: Writing for musicals

The hardest part of writing music for a play is that you really have to have the music fit with the play writer's vision. You have to really relate to and understand the feelings and emotions of the play and then weave the music creatively into that theme. Rather than trying to write music right awa...

Re: Writing for musicals

To make a musical you need a Playright who has a script and wants to add music, and wants to work with you. I know some of these folks. They are writers, novelists, playrights, and they have written a play that needs music. In my experience, the script comes first, and then lyrics are part of the sc...

Re: Which chord progression is here?

The bass is just moving from the root of the chord to the fifth. But the fifth is sharped or flatted to make it a whole tone sound. This whole tone scale (there are only two) includes the G7 #5 which resolves in voice leading to the Cm. The little chromatic line on top shows us how the chords connec...

Re: Which chord progression is here?

Whole tone scale harmony.

I might write it as

Bb 7 #5 | D7 #5 | Bb 7 #5 | D7 #5 |Bb7 #5 | D7 #5 | Cm | Cm |

Re: Chatting with AI about sound

AI gets lost on the most trivial of things. But then it does not know what is trivial.

Re: Chatting with AI about sound

AI mastering doesn't work. Send the song to the AI master and then take the output and put it back in. Go around and around and listen what happens. It destroys the mix and makes it unlistenable. Meanwhile a person has a standard and knows what they are trying to achieve and will stop and do nothing...

OpenAI can often be brilliant!! DC-Choppah: write a poem about a fish that swallowed a truck There once was a fish so grand, He swam through the sea with ease. But one day, something quite strange, Happened, as you'll soon believe. He swallowed a truck, whole and round, It fit inside him, snug as a ...
