Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Right. The sensor is linear in shape, and volume is determined by how much of the correspondingly shaped rubber bit touches the sensor. When tapping it directly, I can only get full volume. Hmm. Think the thing to do is get one of those circular sensors, and experiment with coverings.

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Wonks, this is exactly the sort of thing I came here for - Thank you! The online fixes are all temporary, and would only return the pedal to its former self for a couple of years. It lacks the feel of a real pedal even when working correctly. Hence my musings. I plan to crack open the kick pedal ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
I’ve had them apart and cleaned them. Seems the issue is a common one - the rubber springs that sit between the underside of the pedal and the flat sensor harden over time. A new set would only be £20, but I just thought it might be more fun to find some way of interfacing some piezo pads. I could th ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Thanks Wonks! Yeah, I don’t want to spend money on it, just wanted to use what I have. I should be saving my pennies to finish the room to put my acoustic kit in! The HD1 pedals are velocity sensitive, and I can pull the TS jack out the back, but the way the brain deals with the signal is different t ...

Re: Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
Yep. Already tried it. Don’t work. I’ve read it’s a different type of sensor in the pedal (and therefore a different way of processing the signal in the brain) than the usual piezo-based stuff. The snare/toms/cymbals are piezo, but not the stupid pedals. The optimist in me believes there is some simp ...

Roland HD-1 stupid pedals
I was recently given an old Roland HD-1 electric kit by a friend as a thank you for doing some mastering for them. Nice! The pedals are both suffering from a stiffening of the rubber actuators (not sure of the correct name), so will need replacing. Looks like they’ve been done by a previous owner o ...

Still lightening fast compared to mine - broke ground in 2019, yet to start the inner shell!
Nice to see how you are doing yours as it’s quite similar to mine.
Keep up the good work!

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Can’t believe this is still not finished! Started 5 yrs ago. Wow. The roof has been sorted out/vented, 2 layers of plasterboard with green glue in between stuck to the bottom of the rafters. My wife’s side of the building has been framed, insulated, boarded, plastered and painted. I’m currently layin ...

Re: Soundproof Garden Music Room/Studio
Might be worth contacting some of the prefab companies to see if they have any previous builds you could visit? That would answer the question of whether they do a good enough job or not.

Glad I posted before I got too far down that road. I’ll do the cold roof, as that’s what’s in the “Build it like the pros” book.

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Oh and the statement that prompted the “airtight” question related to using kingspan and expanding foam as a cheaper option than spray foam, as that quote was £1400. Not got that far yet.
PPS, there are vents going in, too.

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Photos to follow, Drew! James - glad you asked. I realize I’ve wandered off the path of what is tried and tested and probably should work my way back on track. Not too much bother (my motto throughout this has been “it’s a nice problem to have”) as I’ve not started anything costly, but here’s my idea ...

Re: The Randolph Rooms!
Flippin’eck it’s been a while… So after my first builder retiring due to ill health, lockdown, lockdown price rises, everything else price rises, yadda yadda yadda… I have a completed outer shell. It looks ace. The walls are very dense, but the roof is about 30kg per square meter. 40 would have been ...

Re: Project studio mixing consoles of the past – where’d they go?
Not 70’s, but a friend found a Tascam M1600 on the roadside. It still works fine and is currently waiting for my studio to be built, where it will be put to use once more!
