How do I get a reverb to sound 'icy' ?

Post by Gone To Lunch »

The track is a mostly orchestral ballad, but with mimimal orchestral percussion in the verses and typical drum kit+elec bass in the chorus, the lyric is about unrequited loss. The composer wants the reverb to sound 'icy'. I am working in Digital Performer, which includes the convo reverb Proverb, and I also have an UAD EMT 140 and a Lexicon LXP Native bundle.

Will DP let you use the reverb as a Send Effect and eq the return? Maybe a reverb with all the bottom taken out is what he means by "icy"? You could even add some distortion as well.

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.

Sounds tricky, even if you completely achieve your idea of icy then it might not be the composer's idea of what he/she means.
There is this:

and that does sound icy.

Try DaSample's freeware Glaceverb. If you can still find it.
