Newbie requires help please!

Hello, i'm new to making music (on a computer, at least) and to this forum, any help offered would be much appreciated.

Ok... samplers, sequencers etc. After browsing around for something basic and cheap/free i stumbled upon a program called Tunafish. I'm sure some hete are familiar with it, although most have probably outgrown this a long while back. Anyway... it seems pretty straight forward. I have loaded various one shot wav drum hits into the program and added them to the interface (is that the right terminology?! I'm not sure) The beat plays out but i'll be danmed if i can get it to play in time. There is lots of clicking, the loop speeds up and slows down. It's a mess. I've tried the same method using the pre programed drum hits also, same thing.

What am i doing wrong?! Again, any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

I'd forget it and try Reaper instead - it's a far better program and you'll find more people offering support.

And if you want a sampler vst to use inside Reaper, try the FREE Shortcircuit from

(Use v1.1.2 as v2 was abandoned).

Easy drag-and-drop to put soundfiles in it.

Sounds like Reaper has its own basic sampler called Reasamplomatic.

Particularly if you're putting in notes with a MIDI keyboard or drum pads. If you're putting beats in with a mouse this may not be quite so critical, but it will be eventually.

Thanks for all the advice... got me a copy of Reaper and am very suprised at the simplicity of the program (to a beginer anyway, i'm sure there are layers to this thing i've not discovered) Just messing around making beats at the moment, which all i need right now.
