Yup, Lions out.

Am at home with nothing to do before heading back out on tour so have taken the plunge on my laptop.

Will let you know how it goes!

Doesn't this "always saving for you" crap bother anybody? Just me?
I am a save aholic, every 3 minutes or so. I don't want or need it done for me all the time.
I like to save, do a bunch of edits, and if I don't like them, revert to saved, which is now impossible. I guess auto save can be disabled

Yes. It massively worries me. It means I can no longer choose what and when to commit to disk.

Perhaps it's auto-save but not as we know it. Maybe it's something more like Time Machine, saving back-ups that can be retrieved somewhere other than over the actual file itself. So it won't be like hitting Apple S all the time and if you quit without saving there might be later back-ups than your last saved file but the last saved file will remain untouched - hope so because otherwise, yup that's way too "Nanny OS".

I expect it will be like the implementation of FCPX, but including versions. Ie, the app is always committing what you do to disk all the time. That's what you'd make if you were designing a computer system for "the rest of us" - ie, people that are too stupid to work out how to save stuff... :frown:

Warning - from other forums, it seems that Logic Pro 8 does not install (yet?) on Lion. Any such users should be careful!

Well, it's running OK here (so far on a non-music machine).

They've effed around with Spaces, in what does not initially appear to be a good way...

Immediate things to note here:

By default, scrolling now goes the other way (a la iPad) which I've changed immediately - didn't feel natural at all.

Upgrade process worked, but not '33 minutes'. Try 1 hour and 20.

Really not sure about this whole mission control thing yet (as already mentioned) but we'll see.

New mail is an improvement in some respects, pointless in others.

Otherwise fine so far, but nothing much to shout about yet.

Working well for me to.

I love Mail, when I'm not behind a lighting desk I'm emailing some production muppet about lights so I have loads. Works much better for me.

Launch pad is nice to.

My version of Logic 9.1.1 isn't working, but i suspect this is because I haven't updated it for ages as this is my out and about machine. Not going to update the Mac Pro until everything works lovely.

I also switched the scroll, to alien the other way.

So far so good.

Just to let you know UAD doesn't support Lion yet.

I'm going to upgrade. If only for the full screen option.

But not yet.

Very slow install!

33 minutes

27 minutes

Back to 30 minutes

Stayed at 30 minutes for another 15 minutes

Then got down to 6 minutes

But has now jumped to 18 minutes!

oh it's recovered, phew

launch pad makes it do an iphone impression with your apps only it shows _everything_ including the little apps you forgot you'd downloaded and were just hanging out in your applications folder ... hopefully you can be selective

i quite like mission control

it feels a bit sluggish but it might be because spotlight is indexing my drives

full screen is nice ... the animation is a bit slow, i'm on quite an old machine

there's a general reworking of the look - like most of it but definitely don't like the cross hatch thing - you'll see what i mean

scroll direction is reversed, change back in system prefs > mouse

Yes, the keynote release speech flagged some of these features and the integration of iOS feel.

I think the autosave works like Timemachine and that you can go back to different versions and restore to last save, but it would be good if someone could confirm that.

Remember folks any Rosetta based apps will no longer work under Lion so have a think about that one. I'm going to convert a bunch of Old AppleWorks files into PDFs so I can still access them.

I'm going to hold off on upgrading my MacPro till we get the all clear (from Desmond? ;))

When the new MacMini arrives (I'll use for admin) I'll clean out my old MacBook, maybe up the RAM and have it as a dedicated location tracking device.

When Snow Leopard was launched I waited a few weeks then meticulously trawled the internet - including user forums - to ensure that all of my plugins and drivers were Snow compatible.

Then I installed it and had a period of absolute hell from allegedly compatible plugins that quite simply were not. :headbang:

This time I'm waiting months; not weeks. See signature below.

How can you tell if an app is Rosetta based?

Anyone got any experience with how Cubase 6 works on Lion?? I realise the legacy plug ins won't but I can deal with that.
Going to buy my first mac next week in the form of the 15" inch macbook pro and quite wishing I could have got it earlier and not run straight into heaps of incompatibility.
