Good rack processors for guitar

Post by Buster189 »

Hello everybody
Im thinking of putting some cheap rack processors together to process guitars in my home studio , ( wish id kept them first time round!) so looking for advice on good units. I had a zoom rfx 2000 which i loved and a midiverb iv - i may get them again, but anything with unusual stuff ---- ring mods, distortions etc would be good or good value vave units --- any suggestions?

Thanks

Quadraverb+ has all the basics plus ring mod and resonators. Had mine since 1989 and still going strong. You could also look at some of the Digitech rack units from the same period too. And I still regret getting rid of my Roland GP16 years ago, but you don't see that coming up often second hand so it may not be as cheap as you would like.

There is a profound African saying, "A white man who cannot dance is a victimless crime, whereas a white man with a djembe drum ..."

I have a Quadraverb Plus and a couple of Boss VF-1 guitar processors which I would consider moving on for a modest sum (not too modest mind you ;)) PM me if you're interested.

Still mourning the loss of my 'Jedi Poster" status :)

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

Hi Chris,

I still have my ancient Boss SE-70 'Super Effects Processor' 1/2 rack width FX unit, which apart from the usual multi-effects (including reverbs, delays, chorus, phaser, flanger, pitch shift, 2 vocoders, and various keyboard multis)

...also includes a shed load of guitar-based stuff such as:

Four guitar multis (e.g. Guitar Multi 2, which comprises Feedbacker, Compressor/limiter, Pitch shifter 1, pre EQ, Overdrive/distortion, EQ, Guitar Amp simulator, Noise suppressor, Pitch shifter 2, Delay, Chorus, Reverb) Salivating yet? ;)

Guitar Synth

Bass Synth

2 Samplers (up to 2 seconds)

They do occasionally appear 2nd hand, so keep your eyes peeled! 8-)

The Boss GT PRO comes in rackmount, IIRC. I have a GT 8 that has endless possibilities.

Mostly Retired from Audio.... If I already know you I'll help,  if not....    Ask Hugh Robjohns, unless that is you're in need of 80's shred guitar... that, I'm still interested in having fun with...

I'd pick the Roland GP8 over the GP16 every time. The GP16 might have loads more features but the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired with nasty digital artefacts being clearly audible on the decay portion of the signal.

The GP8 is essentially 8 of the most popular Boss pedals in a programmable 1U Rack. The Wah, Compressor, Fuzz Distortion, EQ and Phaser are all digitally controlled analogue circuits and only the Delay and Chorus/Flanger modules are digital.

One of these has been the staple of my guitar set up for the past 25 years.

If you want a great synchronisable tremolo, take a look at the Electric MoFex.
