MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
This popped up on Facebook, I always fancied an Eventide H5 but managed to resist as it can only host one algorithm at a time. I felt this was too much of a limitation (you can get dual fx algorithms and multiple algorithms can be stored but each active patch can only run 1 effect). The MOD Duo, it appears, can combine a full pedalboard into a patch which makes it much more useful. I'd like a single pedal that could replace my pedalboard, not a trad multi-fx, they all seem to prioritise one family of fx, but a small pedal that can hold all my fx patches for whichever instrument. This also does looping which would make it a perfect perfect one box solution. Can anybody see any obvious pitfalls?

it's not cheap, but those that use it swear by it.
It is highly configurable, has lots of free official presets just an internet click away and has some built in synth capabilities too.
There are some highly skilled engineers behind its design.

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
I have had one since the beginning, it is unplugged sitting on the floor so not a great recommendation.
The general interface for setting it all up is web based and very good, the choice of fx units is also not bad, what is bad is that they are not great quality.
The HX effects would be a better bet for a multi fx board but if you really want a MOD I could do you a good price, I have the foot switch unit as well. Excellent condition, hardly used.

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
I was somewhat surprised you didn't rate the quality, as I know some of the people involved in the design and programming. These are not backroom boys!
They have a new model up for pre-order here. Looks pretty impressive, but they don't seem to show a price yet.
They've also upgraded their website generally with examples and testimonials too!

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
Theres nothing wrong with the quality of the unit itself, also the web based infrastructure for making patches is very good.
What I meant was that the quality of the plugins was not up to scratch when say they are compared to a Helix.

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
Mod Devices unfortunately have gone down the pan: https://forum.moddevices.com/t/mod-inso ... eboot/8210
I managed to order a Mod Dwarf today off the internet, may seem strange but I have been meaning to get one for a while.
All the online stuff is now offline apart from the forum so I think it will require a bit of fiddling to get it updated and all the devices onto it…

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
That's a pity; I'd been looking at the Mod Dwarf myself. The Pisound can do some of it, but I wouldn't risk using a Pi as a live FX pedal.
Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
Yep it is a shame, they might survive yet though.
I got the dwarf today and have played with it a bit, tomorrow I will post some more info but the main initial positive over the duo so far is it is far less noisy.

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
I really feel sorry for the guys. Being a small company they've suffered the brunt of all the disruption, being at the bottom of the pecking order for parts etc. They are still trying to sort out a reboot, and if at all possible honor existing outstanding orders.
There are of course the usual armchair experts who say the did things all wrong, and one I saw who claimed they just took the money and ran. Absolutely not true. I've met the guys and chatted to them on several past Linux Audio Conferences. They always came over as absolutely genuine and committed to the project.
They do all the design themselves, right down to PCB layouts, and writing their own drivers to match the processor and get the best out of it, so when these processors get scarce they can't just grab another (as one idiot suggested).
I'm not in the market for one of these myself, but I wish them the best, and all their customers.

Re: MOD Devices "MOD Duo"
I do understand some of the peoples issues though.
Quite a lot of the original backers for the x and the dwarf have not got their devices even though they paid/pledged their money 2 years ago or so.
Where I could just go online and buy a dwarf, I could imagine this leaving a bad taste.
They have definitely made mistakes, this of course has nothing to do with them being nice guys, everyone makes mistakes.

Latest update.

I've been interested in the discussion between the creators of the MOD Duo and the Pisound emulator in threads like this. tldr: trying to run a business while following the principles of open-source ain't easy.
