Printing Scores in C6
Is it possible to format the score layout in C6 to print in a useful way? It will print, but the dots are just crammed onto one page and it's unreadable. I can't see any way to tidy it up. I've tried exporting the file to a score writing prog. but no luck. I fear I'll have to copy it by hand but thought I'd ask about this first just in case there's a solution.
Re: Printing Scores in C6
There's a lot you can do in Cubase's Score Editor, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I've no doubt you can do what you want, but it will require a lot of jiggery, pokery, manual reading and trial/error. Personally, I've never had the patience!
For serious score preparation you really need to look at Sibelius.

Re: Printing Scores in C6
Cubase's score editor is good for use with instruments that use key switching - using VST Expression Maps it won't display the switch notes bug instead mark the correct expression on the svore. But in other respects it's frustrating...
Re: Printing Scores in C6
I've only got Cubase 8 here. But I don't think the Score Edit page has changed much.
Well, it ain't Sibelius or Finale. But you can do quite a lot. There's certainly no reason why notes should be all squashed onto one page - you have complete control over staff spacing and number of bars-per-line.

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.
Re: Printing Scores in C6
Two weeks later and I still cannot send a readable score to be played.
I want to 'export score' for three string parts - but C6 will only export if the part is squashed onto one page. Then, on one part the system adds a blank space in the middle of the page and this pushes the last line into the second page and this will not export, so the part is incomplete. There seems no way to get rid of this space. And there seems to be no way to improve the legibility of the score. It just squashes into one page and that's what you get.
It's as if I'm missing a whole set of controls. I've checked around online and read any notes available but nothing has been relevant (except all the similar complaints).
Just ranting really. I doubt anyone serious uses this so I doubt anyone really knows how it works.

I don't know the answer. But it would be worth posting this precise question in the Cubase forums at steinberg.net. As for anyone serious using this — maybe not the favourite application for it, but it's still the only game in town if you want to use it with VST Expression and keyswitching without there being an awful lot of tidying up to do. So there must be *someone* using it!
Re: Printing Scores in C6
Thanks Mixup - but I doubt anyone is using it for scores. I've been all over for solutions to about five problems but no luck yet. The only suggestion I've seen elsewhere is to print to PDF, scan it and then edit the scan with a pencil and some sellotape. Lol.

Really, it's not that bad! I've seen multi-page score printouts from Cubase. (Usually from computer-musicians who have little idea of how to turn their sequenced into readable notation, but that's another matter!)
Why not post your cpr file somewhere we can get at it, I'll have a try for you.

Re: Printing Scores in C6
I have printed multi-part scores from Cubase but I won't pretend I've tried to make it pretty and I've relied on the recipient to sort out the details.
So yes, it shouldn't be *that* bad.

Thanks Exalted. If this last attempt doesn't work I may take you up on that offer. At this point I don't know how much of it is my incompetence and how much the oddness of the system. Mr. Elf will no doubt have formed an opinion by now.

Hello,
From what I can understand, you where trying to print out the MIDI data in the score editor without any further post-processing.
It is not that simple and it does not work that way, unfortunately. In the manual there are detailed instructions on how to prepare scores, it is all explained in the "Layout and Printing" chapter. For starters you should take a look at the Auto Layout function as you already mentioned.
Best regards,
GN

Yep. Thanks. I didn't expect it to print correctly from the parts. I did expect it to be easier to tidy up the score, and I'm still baffled as to why one page has a large blank space in it. No matter, the job's done.
