Ready made tape loops.

Post by Arpangel »

I’m not up to making cassette loops anymore, my eyes, my dexterity, all bad.
I can just about manage quarter inch editing these days, and even that does my head in.
However, I’ve found a couple of sources on Etsy, two guys selling ready made cassette loops, which is useful, see what they’re like.
If anyone else is interested,

Interesting - I didn't realise this was still a thing, but they seem nicely made and reasonably priced.

Personally I'd reach for my computer for loop-based creation, although I can see the attraction of cassette degradation.

Thanks Dan, the prices seem to be pretty standard all round, although your lot do useful different lengths.
Doing loops digitally with processing, is one thing, and I use "Interrupter Wow and Flutter" for that, but using tape, gives a different vibe altogether, because you can physically mangle the tape too, for more extreme effects.

Aha! Tape splicing, I have an unused 'Emiblock' with the 3 angles going spare, still has the sticky backing on it.
I also have a 4" reel of clear leader and (somewhere!) some proper splicing tape.

I was going to make an optical stop system for my Teac A3440 but that is not ever going to happen now.

So, if anyone in UK wants the block PM your addy and I will Jiffy it to you for nanties.

Dave.

That’s generous Dave, but I can’t splice anymore, I have a condition where my hands go into spasm after doing small amounts of dexterous precision type work, I can’t even unscrew things now without this happening.
Old age? I’m just waiting for it to affect my piano playing, then I may have to think about things.
One of the reasons I started to get into abstract modular, is that should all else fail, I’ll probably at least be able to twiddle some knobs, but if this becomes impossible, I’m not sure about things.

I feel very sorry for you Tony. I find such tasks difficult now with only one eye and advancing age but I CAN solder etc, just takes me ages and I get scarred and burned! Brain is also not what it was I am sure.

The offer is open to all.

Dave.

Our brains may not be what they used to be, but we can be very adaptable, and get used to things, I know it goes against what people are used to here, about me, but I’m getting to realise that when one door closes, lots of other doors can open, that sometimes can lead us in interesting directions, I think everything happens for a reason, to show us new things.

some of my fingers are on the edge of not being quite right. I am exploring 1 finger chord generation programs. They are very cool and I can see some great potential there. I haven’t explored if they let me save clusters or forearm on the keyboard type chords yet but those are easy enough to do with a forearm, or forehead, or foot, or bum!

That's a very generous offer Dave. I have one of those blocks and it works well (once you get used to the greater depth of the channel compared to the block on the B77 that I was using before).
