lightpipe??

Post by Steve honest »

hello chaps,
i am trying to get my Focusrite 828 to Connect to my Digi 002 via optical cable so i can by pass those dull preamps the 002 comes with, and i cant get a sound in on Pro tools , also i thought by connecting my 8228 i would see 8 Digig inputs in pro tools , one for each pre amp running at 44.1, but i still only see a pair of spdif inputs,

the cable i am using is the optical cable that came with a cd player, is this the problom? should i be using a optical cable that is multi channel or "ADAT" if so this would explain whay i cant hear nor can see any extra channels
thanks

Hi there,
I have been told that to connect multi channel equipment via lightpipe it has to be an "ADAT" type multi channel optical cable and that consumer cables won't work. I just hooked up my ADA8000 to my Motu 828 a few weeks ago. I ordered a one meter Leisure Lynx Fibre Optical Cable (part number OLC100) for 8 pounds and it did the trick.

Hope that helps,

Enjoy your new gear and happy mixes,

Jay

Sorry, but this is nonsense.

There is absolutely no difference between an 'ADAT-type multi-channel' optical cable and a consumer optical cable.

Hi Steve

Have you selected the ADAT inputs in the Digi 002 software?

'Lightpipe is Lightpipe'! - only difference is the quality of the cables but any will work provided they have the right type of connector on the end

HI Anton
well its not lisitng the adat inputs in the input button on the channel, and i have looked at the i/o drop down menu and i cant seem to find a path for them there , and also in the hardware tab i cant find a button for adat there either, there is mention of spdif, but i toggled that hoping to make something happen ,
is there another place i can look for these adat inputs?
thanks

Hi Steve

Sorry but I'm not familiar with the Digi 002 but from what you say you may need to update/re-install the drivers

If you have the manual read through the section on selecting inputs - is there a hardware switch any where on the unit - on the back maybe?

You might need to get some 002 help off the user forums for that piece of kit

Cheers

hi chaps
thanks for all your kind suggestions, i just got it working , in hardware set up , it would offer me adat button if i was in 44.1 or 48 k, but no higher, which is a bummer because i like to work in 88.2 almost all the time!!!
i wonder if this is a limitation of pro tools LE and the 002 that it only offers adat in the lower resoloutions?

but thanks agin for your help , im now enjoying my dreadful voice , thru my lovely preamps

ADAT only works at 44.1 or 48K, over a single light pipe.... higher sample rates require multiple optical connections using a standard called S/MUX , which splits the signal (for Sample rates up to 96 K) over 2 optical cables, 4 channels per cable. which AFAIK the 002 does not have hardware support for....
