Crackling when recording with Alesis io 26 in logic pro on macbook. HELP!?

Hi everyone i'm new one this forum. My issue is when i record using a microphone with my alesis io 26 fire wire interface which i use with logic pro on my macbook, it keeps having these nasty crackly fuzzy sounds on the recordings. Can anyone help me please?! I've played around with buffer sizes and and used new leads already but no luck. Any help would be great!! Thanks Migs

I own one of these beasts (an io26 that is, not a Mac), and the things that have caused crackliness on my recordings at various times have been:

1. Motherboard chipset drivers not updated (generic XP ones worked for most things, but i026 was all to pot, crackling etc. Drivers updated: problem solved)

2. Non-TI firewire card.

Since I assume you can't swap out the firewire chipset, it being a laptop, I'd say the best thing you can do is make sure all the drivers (for your Mac and for the iO26 - firmware too) are up to date. Then try again.

May be the mic is the culprit, a diaphragm/phantom power problem.
Does it crackle with
a line input,
a different mic,
a different mike cable?

Does the interface crackle when using it's monitoring function, ie without Logic?

I have the io26 and have used it with both a macbook and macbook pro. When I used to use it with the macbook I would some times get a click or a crack on every track (I record 6 real instruments at the same time) for about a minute, then loud static before it cut out, usually with the disk too slow error in garage band? I use an FW external drive for the media, and have all the recent software and firmware updates.

Might just be a general problem with the io26?
