I really like Density, a compressor with MS processing capabilities and some really clean gain reduction. I tend to use it on a low ratio to bring quiet parts up but it's capable of some more aggressive GR too.

It's downloadable here.

I'm a big fan of Izotope Ozone. It's damn pricey but can be used to do more or less an entire mastering project on its own, I've found. It's efficient and pretty with all its online graphical displays.

I would take a look at products from these companies :

Izotope
Kjaerhus Audio
Flux
Sonalksis
Voxengo
Stillwell (on a budget)

This will certainly get you on the right footing, you will have to listen incredibly carefully to what is best for each mastering job you encounter.

cheers

eh... well.... actually all I want are some VST which have excellent sound qaulity (e.g. high precisions, just like PSP audioware Xenon), and the compressor would better be multibands and parallel (of course it need to have a dithering and noise shaping at last) :headbang:

Hi Parco,
clearly it's your choice but just to say that here we use broadband compression far, far more than we use multi/split. Nonetheless if you do want a good multi then take a look at the Flux Alchemist.

Cheers,
Tony

With the Flux compressor I tried I noticed the side chain
filter was on by default, not a great idea IMO.

So the compression is not as smooth as you might have thought once this filter is switched off.
