Pink - Raise Your Glass..... is it me or did they make a mistake?

Post by Henry-S »

Right now I know this song has been on the radio and driving along in my van with the radio playing I have been noticing this sorta high pitch "ding" noise. Now to my ears it is really distracting and ruins the otherwise good chorus.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcmfHZuJe0E&feature=fvsr

The video can be found at the above link. I have no idea why this sound is in the chorus, it seems to just be really horrible sound. It first occurs at 44 seconds and it just goes "ding". Then it happens again at 52 seconds.

comes in at 1.01, 1.44, 1.47, 1.55, 2.03...... you get the idea :)

It happens only on the chorus parts of the song and it really distracts my ears. I have listened on radio and on youtube and both share the time dinging noise :frown:

Why would they put this in??

I would not loose sleep over it - it sounds like a guitar harmonic to me - but nothing too distracting to me...

I think it's just one of those things that once you know it's there it bugs you, but if you didn't know you'd never notice it!

I opened this thread and opened the link before I'd read the whole of your post so it was already playing and the first coupla times it happened I didn't even notice it, but once I'd read your post it stuck out like a sore thumb!

I agree, it sounds like guitar harmonics... you can actually hear similar high-pitched notes a lot quieter just before the 'ding' one, so I reckon it was a deliberate stylistic choice. Given that the dynamics of the guitar are far outweighed by those of the other instruments, they probably thought it fitted quite well, so I would presume it is not a 'mistake' in that sense :)

I know what you mean about it being annoying though... there are certain sounds in songs that annoy me once I've realised they're there. This song annoyed me hugely when they played it on the radio because the glissando bass note in the chorus just really jarred with me. >.<

I loaded some tracks onto my Walkman for when I'm out running. One day I heard a particulary spikey hat that I'd never noticed before in years of listening. Ruined - not only can I not not hear it, but I'm anticipating it in advance - it's like the old dripping tap torture to the point where I'm going to have to import it into Cubase and see if I can frig the 2 track.

There's a squeak in the Coronation Street theme that always gets me.

It occurs in the fourth bar and stands out like Giant Haystacks in a boyband.

I'm a clarinettist myself! And I'd never settle for it!

It occurs in the outro theme and really jars me...

Ugh, it's in the third bar of the outro, not the fourth.

Just heard it again...

Er... surely the easy solution is to, well, not watch Coronation Street...?

Your soul would feel all the lighter for it, I'm sure... :)

If you want to have your enjoyment of many of your favourite Beatles tracks ruined for all time in this way, suggest you go here. Careful, it's kind of addictive at the same time!

:D

has anyone else ever noticed the engineer shouting "that's it" rather too early on Leper Messiah by Metallica? the band do a final-sounding riff, pause for two secs, and then play the riff again. it's in the pause you hear the shout. of course, you can only hear it if you turn it right up, which is an entirely appropriate way to listen to Metallica...

Careful, onesecondglance, or you may get Lars on here telling us that it's a Metallica album and that's the way it's supposed to be, and if you call yourself a fan, then you're not, and anyway, he doesn't want people like you to be his fans.

Just like he always does.
