Dear Anyone.
As you probably know, when you've imported a soundfile into Cubase you get a channel with a mixer slider. On the mixer slider, there's a little E for edit which brings up a nice window with EQ and Inserts in it.
Or it used to. I don't know what I've clicked on but I'm not getting my EQ window any more when I click on the little circled E on the slider. The E's changing colour, but the Edit window isn't appearing any more.
I've checked in the Window menu, in the Window submenu in the Window menu, tried changing to Cascade, no joy.
Please, what have I done to my lovely edit window? All ideas will be tried out, all questions will be answered. I'm supposed to be doing College work and I can't do it because I can't find the Edit window! I've found another EQ called Studio EQ, which the course hasn't covered yet, but it remains just a straight line - it doesn't show what EQing I've already done on tracks.
PLEASE can someone help me get my lovely Editing window back?
Yours pathetically
Chris.

Re: I've lost my Cubase 5 Edit Window - need help to find it.
I searched the old Cubase forum.
I found several posts about missing windows.
The most common cause suggested was that the window was "outside" the screen.
The answer was to increase the screen resolution and drag the window back to its normal position.
This solution also mentioned selecting "always on top".

I've experienced the off-screen window a few times in the past. I'm not sure if this was the one I used, but a utility like...

For a start, don't panic! The Track Edit window is only an alternative view of the channel strip in the main Mixer. It's good to have everything shown at once without having to switch options, but it all IS there in the Mixer.
Sheepdog should sort you out though.

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.

Dear Everyone.
To be honest - I wasn't holding out a lot of hope for Sheepdog or for anything else. But it worked like an absolute dream!
Thank you very, very much.
Do you think - as my copy of Cubase is definitely legal - I should mention this off-screen window thing as a bug report, try to get it straightened out so this doesn't happen to other users?
Whatever your reaction to that idea - you've got one happy Sound On Sound reader right here, right now. I was Panic Central there!
Yours with huge respect
Chris.

Due to this thread I can now use my beloved FM8 once again. Thank you so much!

I'm guessing you're running under Windows XP? I've never had it happen under Windows 7 and I've not had it happen in Cubase 6 under either XP or 7.
The problem wasn't restricted to Cubase - I've had it happen with Lotus Notes, MS Excel and many others from time to time. I guess it's more related to Windows than any specific application.
Given that the world has moved on from both Win XP and Cubase 5 I doubt there's much value in looking for anyone to provide a solution now.

It still seems to affect Sibelius a bit. There's another technique when a window has slipped up far enough that, although some of it is visible, the draggable top bar isn't. You click on a bit of it you CAN see, press Alt-<spacebar> then press M. The four arrow keys then move the window around. Doesn't work in Cubase though. Something to do with the type of window.
