Apart from Thin Lizzy, this is about as bad as it gets, no wonder Punk kicked in big time shortly after. What other reaction could there have been? Let's hope there is similar to come cos the singles charts are giving '76' a run for their money in 2011

Must say I thought exactly the same - horrendous!

As you say apart from Thin Lizzy, and Dolly! the rest was trash. Neither was in the studio though. Actually the Stones were ok as well.

So we did get three good acts (that's three more than this weeks chart shows will have). It must have just been that the rest were so bad (and they were) the show as a whole was a bad experience. Nothing on the 2011 charts will be that bad. I'm not a fan of the latest styles but I will take them over that 1976 show.

I guess that's what has changed, today has a lot of highly produced mediocre music, those days we had some truly great music and a lot of crap at the same time. The crap gets forgotten thank god - until someone at the BBC decides it's worth showing again. Think that show has been shown about 3 times in the last 3 weeks!??

The latest re run of a 76 issue has just been on BBC4 a few minutes ago. Blimey... The Wurzels... and some women called the Surprise Sisters (didn't remember them from 76). On the other hand... The Sensational Alex Harvey Band were on... and Osibisa were always a fun band.

On a slightly more serious note, I would love if the BBC could get to show a good show from the 70's - the original Soul Train from the states. I know it might not have the same nostalgia for us Brits, but it did have some great acts on it. The dancing was a lot better as well! Check it out on uTube. Notice the crowd's slim look as well......USA pre-fast food!

It's surprising really as I think recording industry had it's hey day in the 70's some of the recordings were of the highest quality I have heard.

had it's "big success day" then - but best recordings? Richard Graham (from round here) introduced me to an amzing recording from 1962. I've also got plenty of recordings from this year that sound amazing.

Tonally? I could agree with certain tonalities being people faves from the 70s - but to me it's not the pinnacle of recording. It's just another decade with greats and shites.....
