Hi there,
Im trying to beef up a cheap multicore and suggestions for glue that bonds soft plastics strongly would be handy. I'm making the multicore strands thicker by wrapping a sheath from a 'hollowed out' guitar lead round them to improve XLR grip.
I've used Loctite Sort Plastic glue. Pretty useless tho. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

If you just want to beef up the strain relief take a look at heatshrink sleeving.

+1 You can use heatshrink on it's own, or if you need greater thickness you can use heatshrink to hold extra sheathing in place.

Or if you want belt and braces, you can put multiple heatshrink sleeves on top of each other, each one about 10-20mm shorter than the one underneath. That way you build up a nice strain relief with no stress point

Lots of heat shrink lovers here! Thanks for the suggestions. a colleague suggested attaching a small cable tie just behind where the inner clamp of the XLR is supposed to (with standard size cable) grip. Tried it, kinda works.
How does that method .. um .. grip you? Thanks

I find that self amalgamating tape is often quicker and handier than heat-shrink as it can be used at room temperature. I've used it to thicken out the ends of all the multicore tails that I've made for my own use.

Cable ties only give protection against pulling, not twisting - you be amazed at how tightly the wires can get twisted together if the cable clamp is weak!

Found a suitable glue - Evostick Serious Glue. And yes, it does do what it says on the tube.
