Cubase 5 only letting me input notes every bar (@ the start of bar)
Cubase 5 only letting me input notes every bar (@ the start of bar)
Another pickle getting in the way of working on a project
I cannot draw midi data at 16ths or eights etc
I have the global quantise at 16ths, changed in to 32, still nothing.
.
This is the second issue I have encounted while ready to get stuck into a project, before a vocal just would not time stretch to locators where I had them set,
Its fustrating when something wont do what you want it and need it to do !!!
Yikes
Re: Cubase 5 only letting me input notes every bar (@ the start of bar)
Sounds like you have snap set to 'bar'. If you want to use the quantise value, set it to 'quantise'. I'm sure the manual will cover it in more detail.
And you don't set the locators to stretch an audio event - you simply use the stretch tool. Again the result will depend on whether you have snap switched on and what value you have it set to.
Great DAW, Cubase, but you have to meet it halfway and get to know it before you embark on serious work.

Got it!!! , thank you elf , while Im here another issue needs resolving, when I open vst instruments or another window the main sequence window shrinks ,
Thanks again although these niggles make my creative juices evaporate back to the project later when fustration eases a little

Yeah I think Ill be sticking to cubase for life , Im jumping from cubase sl to 5 so theres a lot I have not found , just noticed the step input button on the key editor window there, plus extended the mixer screen last night, those enlarged level meters look so cool I want a second monitor.
Thanks Elf!!

If I understand you correctly I think this is allegedly a windows issue rather than a cubase issue. It's a repeatedly discussed theme in the Steinberg forum & still hasn't really been addressed in C6.

Why do bad things mostly seem to happen to people who light up a room when they enter it?

Hey Mike
usually when I encounter something like this I attribute it to having a purpose like giving you screen space for I don't know what ?, It is annoying have to resize my main window though

Re: Cubase 5 only letting me input notes every bar (@ the start of bar)
I love Cubase but this constant resizing used to drive me mental. Now I use 2 monitors, one for the project window & the other for edits (if you drag the first edit across the rest follow) and any VST stuff. It also means I can keep the mixer open at all times so I never lose track of insert fx. I was forever leaving bypassed insert fx running on tracks, but maybe just that's due to my way of working.

I've never experienced this, and I've run Cubase on many different machines! Sounds like one for the Steinberg fora.

Interesting thread.
I too get this problem with the Project window resizing itself when I open other windows/controls/dialogs, and I've had it over various versions of both Windows and Cubase.
Kind of trying to ignore it, but it's a bit like one of those motes you sometimes get in your eye...
I think the suggestion from the Steinberg forum thread that this is an imperfect/non-standard use of the Windows MDI display API could well be the case, going by my experience of other apps that use this model.
Elf - out of interest, as this doesn't appear to be a problem for you, what's your set-up? Windows? Multiple monitors? VSTi windows etc set to "always on top"?
Cheers,
Si

It's a Windows thing. Solution is not to use the "full size" button but resize the window by dragging. When done the problem goes away.
Also look at "Workspaces". They set up a look for the Project window and remember window sizes etc.
Don't know if it's Windows and Cubase or Windows and whatever program that Steinberg use to program and / or compile Cubase.

Success is round the corner. It's also round the bend.

Yes

Yes, two monitors.

No. I never fiddle with settings like that.
My main Cubase window is 'stretched' across the two monitors - not maximised. It seems that this may be the reason I'm OK.

Re: Cubase 5 only letting me input notes every bar (@ the start of bar)
I just check the 'always on top option' and my windows never do anything odd, the only slight annoyance is that videos don't open in full-screen when loading a project. I have three monitors and I'm using Cubase 6 but it was the same in 5 as well.
Are you using XP or 7?

Cheers, Elf. Got it. As Tex has said above, the key is not to maximise the Project child window, I think maxing the main Cubase window should actually be fine.
A bit ironic this, as you're most likely to want to max the Project window when you have just the one monitor to play with, and trying to pop anything else up with it causes this issue: if you've got two or three monitors, it's unlikely you'd want to stretch the Project window all the way across them.
tex wrote:Don't know if it's Windows and Cubase or Windows and whatever program that Steinberg use to program and / or compile Cubase.
From my slightly hazy experience in programming this sort of stuff a few years back, it looks like the Steinberg guys are using the correct Mircosoft developed/approved protocol/tools to develop this, they're just using it in the wrong way: There's a chap called Mink (IIRC) on that Steinberg thread that explains it reasonably well.
Anyway, I have a workaround (not to maximise) and I also have a fix: get multiple monitors. Can anyone suggest a supplier of reasonably priced "one above the other" type monitor brackets?

Hi Si,
Just a word of caution, don't even consider this arrangement if you wear bi/vari-focals! Are you looking for wall, desk or pole mounts?

LOL - I'm not quite that old yet - get by with contacts or single vision lenses!
Wall mounting's out I think. I could be moving house in the near-ish future, so more hassle than it's worth in that regard. I was thinking either something that sits on the desk or clamps to the back of it (is that what is meant by "pole-mount"?).
Cheers,
Si
