the uses of foam
the uses of foam
So, I got some foam decouplers for my monitors and they worked great - I could hear a difference as soon as I started using them. A while later I got three foam 'footies' for my mic stand, thinking they'd work the same magic, but...no, I'm still picking up noise through the stand despite the foam (and the shockmount). I take off my shoes, I emulate Bjork, but the foam does nothing as near as I can tell to reduce LF stuff getting recorded when feet (mine) contact the floor and the vibration travels via feet (of the mic stand) in spite of the foam bits attached to same. So I've taken them off the mic stand and I'm using them for propping doors open and for birth control devices instead. And when I record, I try to keep my feet still. Which is a hard thing to do when you have a rock and roll heart. It's like being in church or something. "Sit still and sing nicely." Piddle.
I bow down before your superior biscuitular capacity.

I didn't find the foam mic-stand feet much use for their intended purpose, however...
They are made of resilient foam - so I put a few under my printer to decouple it from my desk. Result, a much quieter printer!

Have you tried putting one under your foot?

Moderately often, I see mic stands where the pole hasn't been clamped tightly enough onto the base. Result is that the pole slides through and ends up touching the floor, which of course lets all the thumpy stuff straight into the mic. Clamp the pole properly so that the only things touching the floor are the three rubber feet on the mic stand, and it pretty much goes away. Also making sure the mic cable is secured to the stand somehow, so that random swinging of cable doesn't get noise straight into the mic, is a good plan.
Maybe these aren't your problem, but just saying.
