MPC drum tracking

Post by Wiseau »

I use the main stereo outs to record drums to Cubase, one at a time from my 5000, as I sample in stereo. Some people say there is a difference in sound to using the 8 individual outs which would save time when recording. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

Everybody I've spoken to on this topic recommends tracking from the main stereo outs as you're doing - this has applied since the MPC2000, something to do with superior o/p amps (and D/A converters possibly) on the main out and skinny sounding ones on the individual outs so I'd go for sound quality over time saving any day personally.

I've heard the same thing but when I track it, I use the 8 so that I have more routing options. I don't think sound quality suffers...

... until I've done the mix. :)
