2 x Monitors on i7 Macbook Pro Thunderbolt?

Post by Pitchfork »

Is this possible?

I have a Dell 1908Fpt DVI Monitor (with a Thunderbolt to DVI adaptor) and an older 20" Cinema Display with DVI.

I have the Macbook Pro i7 with just a Thunderbolt socket.

Is there anyway to have both monitors playing and connected as well as the Macbook Pro screen open?

Would I need a Thunderbolt to double DVI sockets?

Hi,

As far as I'm aware the only way to officially get two additional monitors plugged in to your Macbook is to use a thunderbolt display as the first monitor in line, the second then plugs into its thunderbolt port (using the mentioned adapter).

There are ways to extend your desktop onto two monitors though, products like this for instance:

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/digital... (although I think this may be Windows only).

The problem with using devices like this is that it's always a compromise.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Ok, I just have two DVI monitors and the MBP i7 with one Thunderbolt socket.

I just wanted to see if its possible to have two monitors plus the macbook screen open, but it maybe in vain?

Yes this is such a shame.

I just have two monitors that work fine with my MBP both are DVI and my MBP is thunderbolt

So i need somehting that takes 2 x DVI into one Thunderbolt - if it exists..

Be aware this sort of "spanner" device means the OS sees one huge display, which is split down the middle onto two physical screens.

Not quite the same thing as two native displays.
