This is a partly very belated thanks for the heads up about Savihost in another earlier thread I started.I've now downloaded and am using Savihost with Omnisphere.
Couple of minor problems:-
1. How do I save Savihost to my desktop in such a way that it'll automatically open Omnisphere? At the moment, I have an icon but selecting it just prompts the 'run' option and then I have to go though the necessary process all over again.Am I doing something wrong?
2. The next problem is the sound I'm getting is being affected by a kind of fast warbling. I'm just using typical desktop speakers for the time being. I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit). My pc's CPU is an Intel Core i3 -2120, if this makes any difference.
3. And lastly, thanks to those who recommended Reaper which I got and have Omnisphere on this as well. Problem is, when I use Reaper, I cannot get any sound from my speakers when using this host as opposed to Savihost. Is there any reason for this? I'm using a Yamaha P-105 digital piano connected via USB as my controller and it works fine with Savihost subject to the warbling mentioned above.
Thanks to everyone who posted replies to my previous thread, by the way. What a helpful bunch!

Can't answer that one, hopefully someone who knows the program will be able to help you.

What about playing sound from Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc. or webpages through your soundcard? Does that sound okay? What about through headphones or other speakers? Have you tried any other VST instruments to check that they sound okay? What's your soundcard? Is it just the in-built one? Have you tried playing around with its settings (if it allows this) to see if that makes any difference? (Could well be a soundcard or sample rate issue).

Shouldn't do.

Make sure that Reaper is sending its output to your soundcard. I can't tell you how to do this in Reaper because I don't use it, but somewhere there will be a setting where you can specify this sort of thing. If you have a control panel for your soundcard then you can check the meters to see if sound is coming into the soundcard from Reaper (if your soundcard offers this function).
Does Omnisphere have an on-screen keyboard that you can play to see if it is outputting sound through Reaper to the soundcard?
Also make sure that Omnisphere within Reaper is expecting MIDI to come in on whatever channel your keyboard is outputting on, as this is a common beginner's mistake. Does Reaper indicate that MIDI data is coming in (don't know if it does this, but DAWs often do)? Does Omnisphere seem to be receiving anything? (I haven't used Omnisphere so don't know whether it does indicate this). Have you tried other VST instruments within Reaper, or imported a wav file to test to see if Reaper can play this through your speakers?
There's other things to try, but those are some good things to start with. (Also check your basic Windows Sound settings in Control Panel, make sure all is well and nothing is muted).

Rename "Savihost" to "Omnisphere.exe" then place it into the folder where the omnisphere dll file resides.

Perfectly correct mick - the advantage of its renaming process is that you can have multiple instances of Savihost in one vstplugins folder, each launching a different standalone synth.
