Budget tracking headphones under £50?

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my Sennheiser EH2200 headphones as after 10+ years of abuse both the lead and drivers are starting to fail. These have been great workhorse headphones for tracking and have performed extremely well for this duty.

As these are an old design that has been discontinued for several years I'm hoping that there will be something that will perform at least as well if not better for under £50?

I would like to have excellent isolation to prevent leakage into the mic, decent sound and lightweight and comfort.

What would you recommend under £50?

I was always impressed with my Audio-Technica ATH-M40FS cans. I used them for both tracking and mixing back in the day before I went 'separate'.

You won't get them for £50, but pretty close...

I've been using Sennheiser HD 205s for jobs where i don't want to take my Beyer 770s for years. Good tight fit, relatively comfy and go LOUD. £30 from Amazon

Thanks for these suggestions. The Sennheiser HD205-II is what I originally considered but am a little put off by the fact that the cable isn't unpluggable.

Those Audio-Technica ATH-M40FS's look nice Mike but my EH2200's only cost me £30 a pair and have been brilliant. I was hoping to find something at a similar price but maybe improved due to current technology etc?

I've heard good reports of Superlux headphones - but have never tried any.

... and don't forget that you can't compare prices with 10 years+ ago to what they are today...

They look reeely bad.

HD215s are good. Bit over £50 but we have 5 pairs here we use regularly.

We got ours a few years back at just over £50 a pair. Cheapest now seems £18 over budget, but...

I've had a look at the various Superlux headphones online and the favourable models for my application are :-

HD662
H631

Has anyone had any experience with any of these?

For tracking and general use I have these...cheapish, fairly robust, great isolation and decent sound...and if they break, then you won't break the bank replacing them. I have had pairs for over 3 years and they are looking used but work well.Dave headphones

Those HD202's look nice. It would appear they have a replaceable cable aswell? Does the cable unplug from the ear pieces?

Ok after doing a bit of reading around my shortlist is :-

Monoprice 8323 - £15
Superlux HD661 - £24
Superlux HD631 DJ - £36
Superlux HD669 - £40

Anyone had a chance to compare any of these?

I've used forever a pair of Philips SHP1900 for tracking - they do the job just fine for overdubbing guitars and vocals at home, not leaking sound unless you really pump it - and they cost very little.

Ok here's where I'm at.

The Monoprice headphones look really cheap and I'm a little hesitant on buying a brand I've never heard of.
The Superlux HD661 and HD631's are potentials but I'm not sure how well the isolate sound from the mic? Also, I'm not sure how comfortable they are as this seems to keep coming up in reviews!?

I'm considering upping my budget to something the the Sennheiser HD651's as I have had a reasonable amount of experience with Sennheiser headphones and have always had positive experience with them.

Are you getting your Sennheisers and Superluxes mixed up?

If you are upping your budget then consider the Beyer DT250's - they're comfortable and isolate the audio well. They're also rugged enough to withstand real studio use.

Yes I meant Sennheiser HD215's which are £65. Those Beyer look nice but are nearly double the price of the Sennheiser HD215's which is totally out of my budget!
