Well they arrived this morning and I think the applicable word is definitely cool ... very cool. I can't hear any impact on the quality of recordings made with them (I'd be upset if I could), but, yes, cool ...

I've just given them a thorough prodding and pulling and the connectors feel pretty solidly attached to the cable and there's no play anywhere. So, yes, they do.

Not wishing to rain on your parade CC, but if they're anything like the braided cables I have then they are very difficult to coil easily and to make like flat and straight on stages etc.

Here's hoping yours aren't like mine...

Strictly for studio use, Mike. Admittedly I haven't had them long (not even one day ) but there doesn't seem to be a particular issue with them having a mind of their own. They come with a rather neat velcro cable tidy too. TBH I'm quite impressed with them.

When I had a Saturday job in an electrical shop we used to sell the braided mains cable. I always remember being shown how to coil it neatly and have ended up using the same technique with most cables. Essentially it is similar to the normal over/under technique but you have to feel which way the cable wants to go on each turn and wind it that way. So you may well go over over over under over over under under under... rather than over under over under...

I was tempted by the braided cable for the same project, and would have gone for it were I going to buy pre-made custom cables.

However, for those of a DIY bent who only require short fancy leads or synth patchcords, here are a few photos showing what you can do with shoelaces and 'luggage elastic':

If it's of any interest, I was taught how to make wire loop terminations for 'telephone' cables, complete with the binding to stop the braid ends fraying - none of your heatshrink rubbish!

I always wonder, when I see people using the hand/elbow technique, how they manage to undo them at the next gig!

One way, you throw it out holding the 'middle' end. The other way is more tedious to do and if you get the right end is a bit better, BUT get it the wrong way and you get umpteen granny knots!
